What room is it off of? Most likely it could serve as a lounge area, if it had some comfy seating. (For me, it would need shade or be good for evening hours only.) It could be a patio fire pit area if you had other seating. The built-in wall seating could be additional/spillover seating, if you had a party, for example.

It's off a walk-out basement, so it's not an area that is super accessible by the main living area. I like the idea of some cozy seating. Most large patios I've seen have a cool shape to them that kind of defines different spaces, but this is just like a big boring blob. I really want to contact the previous owner and ask what their plan was, ha ha!

It might be more boring because it doesn't seem to have nearby views/landscaping. There's no planting around the house or fence to speak of. Given that it seems remote for you, maybe it's just spillover space for the occasional large gathering. Or a place to "get away" (fire pit). I'm confident that an arrangement of useful furnishing would make it seem like less of a "blob."
