Lemonade Quilt

Well, even though my dearest had surgery Friday, I squeezed in some time to sew yesterday...and created a mess! I had some leftover jelly roll strips, so I arranged them and stitched them together. I was envisioning something like this:

In my haste, and while talking to my eldest son, I sliced the wrong way...twice! I swore a couple of shoot-a-bunnies, and decided to try and squeeze some lemonade out of this tarty lemon of a quilt top. Here's the result (I have yet to press all the seams or squared it up):

It's small (about 36"x40") so it's going to need a border or two. What color(s) would you choose? Truly, I dislike everything about this quilt top; HOWEVER, it's going to become my FMQ tester, so I suppose all is not lost. Sigh.

Larri, it's not so bad! I bet all of us have cut stuff the wrong way before, even more than once.

As far as borders, I think I would go with a solid dark blue or green. They are complementary to the pink/yellow/orange range and would frame it nicely.

i like yours as well as the original. It’s a clever way to use up scrap strips. Your strip set has a nice play on warm and cool colors.

Nothing wrong with that! Your lemonade is fine. I'm with Donna about a darker border. Audition a very dark and a medium dark to see which you like best. :-)

Thank you for your encouragement, ladies! It's a bit demoralizing when I get in a rush and make silly mistakes. I appreciate your perspectives and kind words.

I was leaning toward the blues for a border, so will take my little 'ol Lemonade quilt to my LQS and find just the right hue. Thanks again and Happy Quilting!

Here’s my thought: skip the border. FMQ is easier with a smaller piece. Your quilt is a perfect size for the top of an incubator in the NICU unit of your local hospital. The bright colors help the babies focus. I have made many of these.

That is a wonderful idea, latifolia! I'm ready to dive into FMQ practice, so fingers-crossed I can make that happen later this week. Will let y'all know how it goes. Thanks for the encouragement and suggestions. Y'all are the best!
