Low Ceilings 2nd Floor: 1970s build

I always noticed that something felt a little off in the upstairs of our 1972 build, traditional home. When we were measuring for closet replacement doors (a whole other topic!), we realized that the 2nd floor ceilings are 89.5 inches- about 7 feet 5 inches. I was really surprised and am now keenly aware of the lower height. We only have 1 ceiling mounted fixture on the entire second floor (fan in the master that was there when I moved in), but I feel cramped now! Guess I’m just wondering why in the world the second floor would have a non-standard ceiling height (no major renovations have been done)?? There’s nothing we can do about it, so if anyone has any design tips, I’d appreciate them. Trying to get over it since we’re not planning on moving. Thanks!
