What should I do with my 90’s fireplace?

I’d like to get advice on what to do with my 90’s fireplace. My ultimate goal is to hang a TV above it but I’d like to remodel it in the process. What do people think I should do with the mantel and drywall surrounds? Should I remove them all together? Should I do floor to ceiling stone? Should I do floor to ceiling tile? Should I still have a mantel if I’m doing a TV?
