I used one in the garden years ago, to get rid of possums. It worked.

We have one or two in the basement. I think they work. No mice, and we live in a rural area.

Trish, I wonder if the ultrasonic things would work for gophers? Nothing seems to deter those rascals! I have a couple of tubes you drive into the ground and put batteries in. They are supposed to vibrate to keep gophers away, but I haven't had much luck with them. I think they get a poor rating on Amazon.

I have the ultrasonic gadget for gophers, two of them actually. When I first installed them the gophers came to investigate, and then left. The booklet mentioned that might happen. Then the gophers left for about 9 months to a year. They have returned. Someone told me they can become accustomed to the sound so it doesn’t bother them anymore. That seems to be the case here. I was given one of the stakes to try for my mole problem. It did work for a bit until they got used to it...as others have mentioned.

rifis, your gadget worked about as well as the advice we got to use Milorganite on the lawn to keep deer away. Within minutes of spreading it liberally, a family of deer were lolling around on the grass, taking their afternoon siesta.

flowers, we don't have gophers here, so I don't know if it would work for them. I used mine for about four months. I had a LOT of possums here. So many, that the outside stairs would be covered in fresh possum poo every morning. I don't mind having a few possums, though. I had to stop using mine, as my daughter moved home, and she gets very upset about any harm to animals (she even put a deadly poisonous brown snake that was in her flat - the bottom level of my house - back in the garden!). A couple of years later she was raising orphaned baby possums in my garage. One escaped, sadly, but I think it lived, as from then on I noticed that plants along the fence were nibbled.

Trish, I admire your daughter's love and care for animals. You raised a very tender hearted young woman. I think I would have relocated the brown snake to somewhere far, far away, though.

Better not let it get out that there are no gophers in Australia, or your country will be flooded with frustrated gardeners from all over the world.

Yikes! I guess we get accustomed to dealing with what we're used to. I'll be staying put, but would love to visit beautiful Australia.
