Need help selecting a vacuum cleaner

Good day,

My husband and I are moving into a brand new condo in August 2014, and wonder what is the best type of vacuum cleaner to buy.

There are so many types of vacuums - upright and canister, etc.

There are no stairs; and no carpets (besides a few area rugs).
The flooring will be hardwood and ceramic tile.

Would love some advise.

If you have no carpet, why do you need a vacuum?

For many years I have always purchased Kenmore vacuums and was and continue to be pleased with them

I have all hardwood floors with area carpets and hands down my favorite vacuum is a Miele canister.

Quiet, good filters, and soft brush head for bare floors. The carpet head fits between dining room chair legs.
Not cheap, German made but worth every penny.

Get a central vac. They can be added any time, even on a completed home. Gets the dirt all the way out of the home. I love mine.

I loved my Oreck and sadly (and stupidly) traded it in for a Kirby. I hate the Kirby!!

I have an Oreck that has so far lasted for 18 years...the handheld has given out but the upright is still going without problems.

I always check with Consumer Report magazine the library for their tests and recommendations.

I second the recommendation of Miele. It's unbelievable on wood floors. Easy to maneuver, rolls around the room like a charm and on the cool side, has that nifty retractable cord and comes in snazzy colors. I bought mine with a coupon from Bed, Bath and beyond; not sure if it still discounts Miele, though.

I wouldn't ever be without my Hoover Linx..with a backup battery...no cords!!! I also have a Dyson, bought it mainly because of the attachments, good suction, but I hate it.

If there is the possibility of installation for such a system, then this will be an excellent option for cleaning the house.
