would this dinning table be too big?

Here is a picture of our current space. We are looking to get a 87" long table. There is enough space on the sides, but the table would end where I positioned our current table but would be flush against the window... its about 3.5inches wider than the current one.

I would ditch the plant in the corner. Probably put one by the end at the window. There would be one bench and 3-4 chairs..

We are a family of 4 and we do everything on our table: kids crafts, work, dinning. So I figure we can use the bigger table space, but I cant decide if it would feel too crowded or would look nice?

Help! lol!

What are the dimensions of the room?

I think it could look great in the room and it seems like you have already decided that it will work well for your family. You might have to move/replace the fixture so it shines in the middle of the table - but that would give you the chance to get a great new light, perhaps rectangle in shape, to shed light for all of the various activities. I'd also consider bringing in color with roman shades and a great rug.

I think it would be awesome. I love that look for a table, especially for a multi-purpose (vs. just dining). It's more familiar and welcoming IMO.

Whatever the size of the table add three ft all the way around for the MINIMUM amount of space in the room. That table looks too big in scale for the room.

While it looks cool, I think that type of leg situation is one of the least flexible and comfortable of all you have to choose from.

Unless the table ends overhang the legs by at least 18", few people will every sit comfortably on an end. I'd look for a table that has 18" of clearance on the ends.

Benches are handy when you have kids, but no one actually likes to straddle a bench and then lift their knee to their chin to sit at a dining table. If you want bench seating, look for a trestle base.

There would be about 3.5-4feet on each sides. But to end where our current table is it would need to be flush to the window.

There is a good overhang on each end so someone can sit although we would only use end sitting when having guests I think.

I like the table and the idea of having a big communal table but I don’t want to feel crowded...

That’s an other view. The dinning room is open to the kitchen.

My personal feeling is that it is too big -- it goes from wall to wall -- at least in your picture it looks as if the table ends about the same place your kitchen wall starts. I would put tape on the floor to the wanted table's size and then put the end of your current table at the end of the space (which is where it is now) and see what you think. Even live with it for a day or two.

I think you should select a table that will expand as required. You need all the space you can get in that space and all the flexibility.

The table you like should not be placed in a room with an 8 ft. ceiling. The scale is too large

Your chairs should not interfere with the fridge doors and the table should be centered on your window.

Thanks Beverly. I am not sure I understand the white lines. Where the current table sits would be where the table would end as long as it sits by the window... Are the lines to show if we move it up to fit a chair at the end? Thanks!!

Please post the dimensions of your room. It's impossible to advise without this info.

Blue line and green line (just to the short wall by fridge) please.

Oh wow I hadn't realized this was a kitchen. I agree, centered on window. I still think it could work if it had all bench seating.

Did you nix the idea of the other table with the X's on the ends?

    Benjesbride the room dimensions:
    Green line 111in
    Blue line 125

    The current table is 36 x 59
    Thanks!

Idaclaire im still considering the one with the X it’s a little smaller 38x 72 but I’m afraid the X makes it look too busy in the space? What do you think?

"madame X" was my first choice, but then I had second thoughts lol!.. First world problems right here...

Are you totally opposed to an expandable table? It seem so much more practical to have it be a more manageable size for daily use, then expand with leaves for projects, larger gatherings, etc.

Olychick, yes that is what I am thinking. The X legs one is expandable..
