Stone and quartz are heavy materials, so yes, they don't tend to be used as shelving unless you have the proper supports. If you haven't yet done the demo for this kitchen, you could have the general contractor add some structure to the framing where the shelves will be placed. I would then find some iron or steel decorative brackets to hang the shelves with.

All that said, you could have your counter top fabricator make some cheese boards or trivets out of the scrap slab material.

I had my contractor make a granite sill for the window above my kitchen sink. I love it - makes a great place to grow herbs.

As long that you have the proper support anything is possible , from window sill to shelves creativity is endless as long that you have the funds for them .

3cm Cambria will make a fine shelf in this application, just make sure the brackets/supports are strong enough.

Any 2 or 3cm stone or engineered stone is too heavy for a cheese board or cutting board. If the feet fall off, you're getting a nice scratch in your top, I promise. That's why sheets are stacked finished to finished and back to back.

1/2" Corian makes a heavy cutting board, but your foot may survive a hit.

I do plan to ask for a window sill plus a small table top for our bar cabinet, I also heard quartz would be too heavy for cutting board or cheese board so I'm still debating.

Hello, yes we have seen Cambria used as shelving before. It's a beautiful idea, as long as your contractor feels comfortable installing this properly.

We have a granite shelf in our bathroom, no reason it couldn't be quartz. It's nice. The only cautions I would offer other than the support issues is to 1) clarify what the underside of the quartz will look like 2) understand that fabrication is a significant chunk of the cost, so often you don't necessarily save as much as you think using remnants.

I had half a slab left over, I had an island top cut, for not a penny more than the original quote. :-)

Our contractor confirmed he can make the support for the quartz shelf, really excited to see how it would turn out. Will come back with pictures in 2 weeks! Thanks all!
