Help help help! 1950s ranch. Awesome original two way fireplace is at the center of our massive living kitchen eating space. I love the space but hate the fireplace. Need to find a budget friendly design. Need to remove the ugly concrete shelves facing the family room. Need to lighten and brighten. It’s a custom size firebox so I will probably have to paint or keep and honor the brass. Need to incorporate electronics somehow and would love a mantle above the television. Maybe even add some built-ins? Help help help do I drywall the top and paint the brick along the bottom? Do I remove the house on either side?
