Weird window/door configuration

Well, I got lots of great advice on the last question, so I may as well as all you experts about this one too!

House has this dated demilune window over the door to the deck, along with two side lights that don't come all the way to the floor...I assume this is due to snow/water considerations.

Other fun thing is that these windows don't line up with the ones on the adjacent walls. WHY? Why would they do that?

El cheapo paneling was destroyed and is gone.

I handled this by painting everything white, which I actually like except the door/window thing really stands out. Any suggestions?

Paint that wall a color that makes the door and window blend in.

On another note, how about having the sofas face each other? Put the chaise on the end of one sofa and the chair at the opposite end of the other sofa.

This has to go under the heading, "what were they thinking?" Would you be able to remove the arched window? Then you could extend the window trim across the top of the sidelights and the door. The height would be the same as the other windows, but it will be much less noticeable.

I would remove the entire unit and put in a slider

I should have been clear - right now I can decorate or paint. Maybe, maybe get built-ins. But I can't take them out right now.

I would remove the window grids on each side of the door. Your other windows don't have them, so I think it would look better.

For the odd configuration, you could always paint the window and door trim the same as the wall color. Perhaps that would help to draw the eye away from it. Otherwise, I think I would learn to embrace it.

NO built ins because when you can afford to fix this you won't want built ins on that wall. Get a piece of high quality plywood cut to fit in the half moon window. Paint it and the trim around it to match the walls. Then if possible remove the top molding on the 2 windows at least then the top will be straight. Remove the muntins as you don't have them in the other windows in the room
