Why not just buy an led bulb and keep the trim?

Trim is 22 years old and yellow--doesn't even look good on my ceilings which were painted 10 years ago. My fear is that just installing a LED bulb on a sloped ceiling will result in light NOT shining straight downward.

There are recessed cans made especially for sloped ceilings, but it would require tear out of some sheetrock - I don't think they are remodel cans. If a drywall/painting company is removing the popcorn, then they can patch holes after the electrician is finished changing out the cans.

Can you post a photo of the trim? Some trims are really standard- they can be replaced for $10-$18 at home depot plus $5-8 for a good bulb. Sometimes they are not standard but can be fixed with a can of white spray paint. Then other cans have trims that are integrated and can't be removed at all... Generally working with what you have will be cheapest as it doesn't require an electrician to replace the housing in the ceiling. To me LED bulbs have a better light output than the LED retrofit kits, others will disagree. Make sure to watch the color temperature (I like 2700K) and you will need to replace the dimmers as well.

I’m going thru this now. The first pic are the pop in house type deals I assume most are familiar. The second is the new house with the rest. I didn’t catch the slope of your ceiling. Mine are for a living room with tall cathedral ceilings. I’m guessing 18-20 feet. It’s dark and depressing and I hope these help. I know zero about lighting weird difficult tall ceilings. A few of my own attempts always ended with crap results so I just bought what lighting guy said on these. If you just have sloped at an angle not too crazy I believe you could try the standards. That is what they told me at least.

Remodel can is smaller so the whole ceiling does not have to be ripped out (hopefully) for an update. New construction cans are larger. Not recommending either of these - just photos I found on Houzz to show the difference.

Not a peaked ceiling but we have a high “flat) ceiling and used LED gimbals so we could turn them and use them as wall washers, and they are ones they recommend for sloped ceilings too. These are or similar to ones we have:

They also have these with 360 rotation and 50 degree tilt but they definitely don’t recede as nicely - probably better for incredible slopes or where needed for art displays.
