Gorgeous Manuel, drool inducing, sooo nice! I can't seem to grow Hahniis; but I sure love lookin' at 'em. TFS.

The Boncels had such a light color that they almost looked variegated. I bought one of those rather large Samurais.

A Solid Gold hahnii for only $5. I would most definitely purchased all of them. Get to know this person and see how he grows such nice hahnii. His mix looks to be mostly peat and some perlite.

He's a vendor from a greenhouse called Fantastic Gardens, located in Patchogue, Long Island. Of the several vendors who go there, he's the only one who brings interesting plants. The other ones only bring the kind of stuff that you would find at kmart.

I have to admit that Hahniis are big challenge for me. So far I've only been able to keep them alive for a year or so. They tend to rot in the center, even though I make sure water never gets in there. Even in several types of mixes and percentages of turface, rgular soil, etc. But, I'm still trying.

i have only the common green hahnii. I divided a large colony I received from my mother-in-law and have been trying them out in different pots and media and windows. I’ve lost quite a few to rot. The ones that are doing the best have been in the lowest-soil-proportion mixes and watered the least.

i just chucked one today, actually. I was horrified to pull out the gooey mess and see mostly black soil with little sparkles of vermiculite in it... what was I thinking?! Pretty sure an African violet died in that pot, I must’ve just poked a pup in there and not looked at the medium at all.

Gorgeous plants. Thank you for sharing the photos, Manuel. Like you, I have not had good luck with hahniis. I have had the same experience too. I can keep them alive for a year, maybe too, and then -- even though I haven't changed my "care habits" -- rot sets in. However, there are other Sans varieties that I seem able to grow easily, so I've decided to stick with them and not put any more hahniis to death. I always watch for your photos of the farmers market -- because they bring such beautiful Sans. Inspirational.

I too have rot issues with hahnii. Some thrive for a few years then gone. That's the main reason I really love my Asahi. It looks similar to Gold Hahnii but a little larger growing. So far no issues what so ever with rot. I got maybe 12 pups off two plants this year and next year planing on gifting them out.

So many leaves on each plant that it is impossible to count.

I hope all the other ones I gave out did equally as well as mine.

Yes like I do with some of my Haworthia. They preformed poorly. Every time I purchase a nice sans. hahnii, it is growing in a regular potting mix what we call peaty. I can't grow them that way in my house. They grew them in a green house. So I try to use the best of both worlds. All has to do with heat, air cir., water and last nutrients. With that all said, I am still learning and losing an occasional plant or two. When I get it all together, you here, will be the first to know.

I have tried a large variety of Sans in inorganic gritty mixes, but the results have been disappointing (and sometimes deadly). ALL my Sans are now in an organic mix that is part C/S soil, part perlite or pumice and part grit. They seem to like that better, although the hahniis STILL take a dive on me.

I'd like to confirm, is this a Hahni? I keep growing offsets.

As far as I can tell, yes. Some times leaf cuttings will grow this way and the newer offsets will out grow the main plant.

Since my Bantal's Sensation grew in a peaty mix, I am trying it on some plants to see what happens. Right now, 1/2 compost and 1/2 perlite with some phosphate and alfalfa.

I should add that my compost is everything that comes out of the bag on the lawn mower. Hedge cuttings, small tree branches, spruce tree needles and in fall, maple leaves alone with lots of green grass clippings.
