Yes! We found we should provide water bottles and fluffy runner rugs, as well as better drapes for light darkening.

Did you bring luggage? Make sure there’s a spot to put it. Also make sure you don’t pile lots of decorative pillows on the bed that guest will wonder where to put at night.

Good air flow! I had no idea my guest room was so hot at night until someone mentioned it. Good pillows, water bottles, nice tv with lots of channels, I love the lavender oil to scent the room a little bit, and a bottle of Aleve because when people sleep over it’s usually because we were drinking a little too much at our bar LOL

A luggage rack. My guest thought nothing of putting a dirty suitcase with wheels that went through mud onto my new cream velvet duvet.

We both wear glasses, so a nightstand on each side of a bed is a luxury. If you have a tv, a list of channels is nice. And hangers, lots of hangers and space in a closet so we don’t look wrinkled when we take you to dinner to say, “thanks!”

A container with spare toiletries that guests may forget - for example: extra toothbrush, toothpaste, disposable razor, shave cream, shampoo, conditioner, nail file. Those free samples from the dentist, hair salon, cosmetics counter, etc are great for this.

pic 1 -- note Bri that the blinds ARE room darkening! We had some guests complain that the room gets the sun at sunrise so we installed room darkening shades.

The oversized yarn blanket was made by my daughter. We're currently using it to cover up an old Ikea chair that has stains on the seat cushion. I'd love to eventually replace this chair with a nicer one with ottoman and add a floor lamp so my dad has a quiet place to sit and read when he comes to visit. Also the bed is pretty low for aging guests -- they need a place to sit to take off their shoes!

pic #2 -- I was thinking of adding a bolster pillow but I agree with drdeb about too many throw pillowswhat do you think?

Remodeling1840, these integrated nightstands aren't too generous in size and we have stacks of local history and guidebooks on them now. I was thinking of getting the lights up off the tops and on to the wall instead. But sleeping there this weekend, these lights are pretty good for reading, and easily within arms' reach for turning them off.

The pillows could be better so that is on the list to upgrade! Cow hide rug was on the floor but I didn't like it there so I am trying it on the bed instead. Is that weird?

pic #3 -- this room has this alcove in it. I think previous owners placed bunk beds in it, but we borrowed about a foot of space to enlarge our master bath. So we did this with it. We call it the hookah lounge. The cushions are about the size of a king size bed. The idea is to have a place for visiting grandkids (someday-- none born yet) or kids of visiting friends. We have had lots of kids crash here already. I make it up with sheets and blankets and pillows. Fits two children for sleeping.

Karen, It is wired for a t.v. but I'm now thinking the t.v. would be too close for viewing and would be a potential hazard for kids who may kick it in their sleep. Not sure we will put a t.v. in here after all.

lshack17, we just completed a big declutter project this weekend on our storage closet, and I was able to finally empty out the guest bedroom closet!!! My goal was to have it completely empty except for extra pillows/blanket on the shelf, lots of hangers, and a luggage rack! I am still looking for a luggage rack. Can't make up my mind on that. Welcome suggestions.

Karen, the room does get good airflow, at least with AC on. But we have heard complaints it gets too hot in the winter with the heat on and especially in the morning when the sun is streaming in the windows. It does have a fan (not shown in pics). The airflow seems okay with the door open but guests need their privacy. So we probably need to play around with the heating vents.
