Pulling tends to leave the 'nut' (actually a tuberous root) in place. And new plants will just generate from that root. But if you carefully dig up the entire plant, root nut and all, and before it is allowed to flower and seed you can pull/remove by hand and have pretty decent control.

FWIW, this s a much easier practice to follow in a planting bed.....not so much in the lawn. And is rather time consuming!!

Thanks gardengal48. That makes sense, so I think I'll stick with the chemical stuff like sedgehammer. I have most of it under control, but it is tough stuff to get on top of. Fortunately, I don't have a hug problem with it at this time. Appreciate your reply.

Wil, what is your normal watering schedule? How often and for how long do you water?

Are you certain it is nutsedge and not green kyllinga? One way to tell is the flower they put up. Another way is that nutsedge usually prefers soggy soil and will almost die out in dry spots. Green kyllinga is much less aggressive but will survive with practically no water at all.

What do the flowers look like, rhizo?

Hi folks. Thanks for the replies. It's been too wet to do much the last few days, but here are a couple of photos showing the plant that I think is yellow nutsedge. That's a sedge, and looks like the yellow nutsedge that shows up in my gardens! I've never allowed mine to flower.

Tenacity will take it out in one or two shots. Other than that, glyphosate often works if it's just glyphosate, which is slower. Round Up is fast, but doesn't get all the nutlets on the roots and it tends to re-sprout.

Six on one, half dozen on the other. Both work. SedgeHammer is probably faster and better on sedges. Tenacity has a wider spectrum of other weeds it'll kill.

If you have SH on-hand? Use it rather than buy something new!
