I have always mulched my grass. Three important points to remember - 1) Mow often. Tall grass simply won’t mulch using a non-professional mower 2) Keep the blade sharp 3) Only mow when the grass is dry.

Presently I use a 24 volt mower. It does a fine job but I cut twice weekly.

Here's a comparison in April 2026 of an Ego and a Honda. At 57:00 the Honda mulches the grass into smaller size pieces.

Also look at 1:03 and following. Ego throws out some clumping when mulching.

I had a Toro gas mower for 50 years before getting into electric mowers. My first battery powered one was Black and Decker as it was the only decent one on the market at that time. When that broke I immediately got an Ego about the same vintage as yours.

We have live oak trees with small leaves. The only way to mulch the tiny leaves was to set the mower on the lowest setting. Normally I mow on the highest setting, so it is quite an ordeal for me to scalp my lawn so low. I've sort of resolved to just continue mowing on the highest setting and letting the leaves filter down into the turf to decompose.
