Cabinets on long wall

last modified: 8 years ago

Hi! In the very preliminary stages of kitchen planning but my question is, does anyone have recommendations for placing cabinets on a long wall that doesn’t have any ‘boundaries/walls’ To ground the row of cabinets. I need to figure out a way that they look grounded there and not floating. The sink has to stay on that wall. Thank you!

The most efficient way for you to get feasible suggestions is to post a sketch of the space with dimensions and some photos.

Pictures please, although I know the pros will suggest a kitchen designer.

Haha. Yes! We'll take care of that now: You need to hire a KD!

Now. Please post a drawing and photos so the amateurs can have some fun :-)

The pros here are excellent. They quickly spot bottlenecks and know the placement triangles solutions by heart.

Can you post the 2d view. It's much easier to understand.

I'm far from a KD, but it seems like it would look better with cabinets wrapped around the corner and on both sides of the vent hood.

The back L door is an exterior door and back R door to a laundry/mud room.

Are you up for moving the sink?

How wide is the overall space from the sink wall to the opposite wall?

The upload keep posting skewed from here, but yes I’d be up for suggestions if the sink was moved to. Where to would you say?

    Sink in the island.

Two big problems with your plan: The island is a major obstacle between work centers. Also, the path through the kitchen bisects your primary work space between sink and range.

So if you did sink in the island, what should I do on the left wall do you think??

Depends on the width of the room. Likely a walkway behind island seating.

the width dimension is cut off on your photo. Are you on a Mac or a PC? Taking a screen cap of the entire layout (vs cell phone pic) is going to be better resolution and not skewed. Assuming that's an Ikea layout, you can export the "top view" to PDF, then convert the PDF to a JPG and upload that here.

Edited to add: what does the surrounding space look like - can you drawn a general layout of your house (doesn't have to be to scale or anything). Like what is in the space at the 'bottom' of your kitchen? and are there any windows or doors in that space?

I don't like a layout with the refrigerator on one side and the sink on the other separated by an island - a barrier island. I also don't like not having a counter area next to the sink. If I were you I'd have the refrigerator and the sink on one one and use the other area as a pantry.

That is definitely a good option that I didn't think of, where wall D is, that is a door so I couldn't do a bench there but otherwise could work pretty much.

I agree that it should be more connected with the triangle work flow! I like the idea of using that L wall somehow but I just think anything on there will look out of place like it's floating. This u-shape above is a good option though I think!

    Is this space 17' wide?

Is that a built in pantry in the bottom right corner of your drawing?
