If you can't add any softness with curtains or rugs how about reupholstering your chairs in a patterned fabric? Something that would add a little color or texture to the room?

Husband won't like it, but you need to break up all the wood with some more metal or glass. Maybe a grouping of candlesticks on the buffet. Most don't like to watch themselves eating, so no to the mirror. Are all your rooms painted the same color? If not, you might bring some color from adjoining rooms into this one with the new upholstery idea.

I agree with Sharyn that there needs to be some fabric to add softness/texture.

I also think the paint color is lacking. You have all these beautiful, rich pieces but then very bland stark walls. A richer color would really help I think, and it would add some color/warmth.

The chairs were reupholstered just last year so I don't want to change them. I have this same black fabric in the living room sofas and when we bring these into the living room as extra seating for big parties it looks nice. I also have one of the chairs at my desk and I like having black to move throughout the house.

Yes, I would love a dark print or painting above the buffet. I think it would really pop against the grayish wall, but we spent a bundle on this map and framing and it is here to stay. My husband just loves it.

You are missing color.

The easiest thing would be to change your centerpiece to something more impactful... Even a vase with bright, freshly cut flowers would work :).

You could also add some colorful dishes to your china cabinet and edit a few stacks of plates

Photos of the missing space walls would be helpful as determining your furniture placement. French lamps would add texture and color to coordinate with the french map. Not necessarily the ones I have chosen but a visual to see the colors for impact in the space without using textiles. A french tea set and tray?

I second (third-ed??) adding color to the centerpiece. Oranges? Or other fruit you normally keep around/eat. I bought a bouquet of flowers at Whole foods in May. The flowers died off soon enough by the green fill is *still effing green three months later!!* Its worked really well to add texture and color in my LR.

Unique vintage trays in different sizes on wall behind high chair. Brass sconces flanking the map artwork. Another way to bring color into your space in a subtle way would be to paint your ceiling a very pale sky blue. Best of luck with completing the look.

I would frame the map in black and move it to the wall with the book stand as it would make a nice grouping. A black frame will give it more impact. Add colorful art above the buffet and as other have suggested, reupholster the chairs with a more modern fabric/color. I picture a bright blue with all that warm wood.

I agree with the pops of color in the art on the wall. Another way to bring warmth and life into a room is through plants. Consider a set similar to the example

Wow great advice. Without rugs or upholstery I recommend becoming an art collector for the whole house. I love the map but future choices in this room should bring color. Layer texture and color with lamps, china, etc...

Sconces flanking the map or a pair of lamps. All these additions could have simple/clean lines to contrast the antiques. Painting the ceiling the blue/green in your map would be lovely.

Kenrah: sorry!! I didn't see this before! Haha this is best picture I have (I had to crop it). They were bulk greens in the flower section at Whole foods. I think one stem did die. But I wasn't even sure they were real until that happened. They're still sitting there on my mantle!! They are just basic, leafy greens...

A large and colorful ceramic bowl or oblong tray, with fruit in it that you will be eating but which will get refilled with fresh fruit. A vase will not be large enough to have much impact. More art wherever you have space on the walls, but only what you love and will enjoy. Candles on the side board that have one of the colors of the table centerpiece. I love your chandelier; it's beautiful and different.
