Maybe a root pruning would help stimulate some new fibrous root growth, which would theoretically help the tree sustain new leaf growth? (If this is not the wrong time of year to be doing that.)

Interesting idea. I thought maybe it would be caused by a nutrient deficiency, but all my other trees get the same fertilizer at the same time.

When my youngsters drop the new growth - or the tips brown out, its either - they got too dry -- or the soil is/was too wet. in both cases I believe the roots stopped functioning adequately to support the growth. More often than not, I've seen the cause as being too dry. - George

I have noticed it happen also when the soil was too wet.

Hmm. I watered the other day when I fertilized. I will have to keep better track how often I water this tree. Thank you for the information.

What you describe is a normal thing for your tree. I always get this (new growth of 1-2cm, with tiny immature leaves, falling off) a few days after full moon on my Fukushu kumkuat, no matter water/ temperature/humidity/etc condition I am offering to the tree.

So judge the status of the tree by looking at the larger and older growth,

eSilviu, thank you for your comments. The particular tree I was worried about is not as robust as my other trees which is why I was worried. It's nice to know that other people have experienced the same thing. I do not understand how a full moon would make a difference to a tree. I have heard about planting by the moon though. Interesting idea.

So it is not me but my Fukushu.
