Window treatment recommendations

I need window treatment advice for the two photos I have included. One is for our eat in kitchen space (Triple window) and the other is for the family room (Two double windows). I do not want to use drapes hanging from a rod due to the moldings. I like a traditional style with a little bit of flare so I dont mind color. I'm not sure transitional is my style or not. Our sectional is navy blue and so are our lower cabinets and island in the kitchen. Im not afraid of color but want the right balance.

You can get roller blinds in fabric or slat blinds mounted inside the window frame. A friend of mine got her's from Blinds to Go custom fitted. I think they are good quality.

    Also Roman blinds would work.

Yes...something like shades or blinds, inside-mounted. What about plantation shutters?

chloebud- We have also thought about these for our bedroom windows and the set of double windows but maybe not for the dining ara. I was thinking about roman shutters or sheer shades/blinds for that area. Is it more common to mix shades and blinds around the house or do most people with the same style?

Alyssa, I'm not a pro but I don't feel you have to do the same thing throughout the house. We happen to have plantation shutters in most of our home...even the garage. The previous owners put them in but we love them.

Goodness, having all the windows in the house with the same kind of coverings would be terribly boring! I have curtains, and various kinds of blinds - some roller, some roman, some bag shades, and I still have my somewhat frilly festoon blinds in my breakfast room. I was just looking at them this evening and thinking how much I still like them and the softness they give to a room filled with bookcases, a round table/chairs, and a server.

why do those windows look so short? the first pic the sill looks like it's a foot from the floor. what is the size of the window?

the second pic, why do you have to have any blinds at all?

your best bet is to wait until everything is done and furniture is in. you won't want to pick blinds before everything else.

Your windows look a bit short and you have a good view I would stick with something that has a slim profile when drawn up

Regarding the shutters, the previous owners of our home combined curtains or valances with some of them. I removed all the fabric since...IMO...shutters look best on their own.

The 2 sets of double windows are 64 x 72. They are 6 foot windows. They are meant to be lower rather than the center of the wall.

I think first of all you need to define your goals for the windows.

Do you need light filtering but little privacy?

    Do you need maximum privacy?

Do you have enough room inside to do inside mount? It looks like your windows are deep.

What do you want to accomplish in each room with the window coverings that you choose? Which is more important..functionality or appearance?

most fabric treatments can only be vacuumed. Shutters can be cleaned more easily.

    How important is budget?

Can you tell that I’m making the same decisions?

We do need light filtering but a little privacy, There are large windows but I want to keep the budget at $250-$275 a piece. We do want insie mount. I beleive we do not want any type of sheer shades. We received some beautiful samples yesterday but I touched one after cooking and some oil on my finger tips. We could not get it out and we have a 1.5 year old and a 3 year old. Those are no longer an option.

Alyssa you will probably be in the price range for faux wood blinds or maybe wood blinds depending on the brand. That might be a good option as you can spot clean without an issue and you have the ability to adjust the tilt for more or less light, and close for privacy.

As others have said, window treatments need not be the same, but beware of those that are in visual shot of each other. For instance, the windows in living and dining rooms that adjoin each other, or kitchen windows (typically over the sink) and the kitchen dining are 15 feet away. They need not be identical (although sometimes that’s good) but they should relate so the house doesn’t look like a sample sale. Also, with Roman blinds, be aware that even drawn up they block a good chunk of the upper part of the window, which might be an issue sometimes (depends on the window size, the view, etc).

I'm a such fan of neutral window treatments, with just a sprinkle of color added with trim.
