A-Frame Exterior

I've completed the remodeling of an A-Frame from a nostalgic 60's interior to a sleek contemporary space. The next step towards completing the project is the siding.

I've been on the fence about whether to continue with a vertical board and batten siding, switch to a horizontal Hardie Plank pattern, or do a combination styles. The board and batten would surely enhance the short walls along the entry, but I don't need any additional "height" on the front of the A-frame.

I've attached a photo of the front of the house. Since taking this photo the pendant light has been removed, the entry is now a glass french door, and the decorative rail is gone. If anyone has suggestions or examples of how to re-side this portion of my house, send them along.

I think that white window trim and soft gray siding -- like in this A Frame inspiration photo -- would really update the look of the house

This is one option, but traditional. The issue with the existing house is the two elements do not relate. Adding a board and batten-horizontal siding in a particular pattern to make the two elements relate is one answer. This pattern will also create rhythm and interest to a fairly blank canvas. The existing facade has rhythm with the existing windows, they just need a bit more help to tie them all together. Most buildings have a base-middle-top. By painting the horizontal siding with a mid tone gray, will give it a base. Then the board and batten will be painted a lighter grey tone-(closer to white) for the middle and of course the eave and roof-you already have the top. One more option would be to lower the horizontal 1x and horizontal boards below the windows by 2' to make the base shorter and the facade will feel taller. We are fighting against the horizontal on the adjoining sides. Hope this helps. Woody
