Trade Lists gone?

Did I miss something? I can't find others' trade lists on their profile anymore. Did they hide them somewhere?

TIA!

Thanks for asking this, I have the same question. I determined I can get to my trade the same way as before via Advanced Settings but my trade list is not visible to others and I cannot see other members trade lists.

Ditto. My Exchange List is still there, and I can edit it... but it no longer appears on my profile. I've noticed others have posted their exchange list as an Ideabook, perhaps transferring it there would be a (temporary?) fix.

It does seem that since GW was taken over by Houzz, they have been eliminating all of the features that made exchanges easy. I'm wondering if this is the first step, and if the exchange pages themselves will disappear as well?

I hope not. Maybe I will do the Ideabook option. This is terrible. ☹️

Well, I'm having the same problem viewing others trade list...my biggest problem I'm having is how do you post something in here??? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Ty

Heh, I can't even find my own trade list... and I know I used to have one at one time.

Even worse is that it seems that my messages only go back to 2015 now- and I have been trying to hunt down where I got Dwarf Wild Fred tomato seed from back in either 2013 in a tomato round robin tormato hosted or 2013 from socialgardengal and she does not seem to be around anymore. I ran out of that seed stock and ordered some from Victory Seed, but what they sent me is definitely not what I got in trade back in 2013.

It's a bummer, because I can't find anyones trade lists to see if they might have had that particular tomato listed on them still :(

I'm betting since Houzz seems to be money driven and everyone should buy stuff that they are trying to eliminate us GW members trying to do free trades. I haven't even tried the exchange lists in ages due to this.

I absolutely agree with all of you in the above messages! I used to trade seed on here years ago when it was just the Gardenweb! Posting your trade list then was so easy and easy for anyone to find. Maybe we should all just put our home email and you can put your trade list in a file and send to whoever wants to trade. I would like to be able to just put it on here but not having much luck! Is there somewhere to complain? It does seem like all Houzz wants to do it sell you their products! Wish someone smarter than me would start another website like this used to be! I am looking for seed you can't get at Home Depot and named iris and named daylilies. Here is my email if anyone is interested I live in Pensacola which is 8b and this is my email carolbieber10@yahoo.com Thanks, Carol

I sent an inquiry to Houzz, yesterday via "contact us" at the very bottom of this page, regarding the disappearance of the Exchange Lists. No reply as of this time.

I would very much appreciate it, if you get a response, would you let us Know what they say? Thank you!

    A solution and a hello....

Hello everyone! I was an active trader here for many years before Houzz took over. I abandoned ship after that, but came back in curiosity today. -I've just moved to Arizona and would really enjoy trading for new sorts of seed.

I am sorry to see that Houzz is still not very responsive to garden forum users' needs. )-: However, I do have a cludgy solution to the trade list viewing problem:

Just use the URL houzz.com/gardenwebtradelist/usename and you can view someone's trade list.

E.g., if you want to look at zeedman's tradelist, use the below URL

    houzz.com/gardenwebtradelist/zeedman

Hopefully, this is an interim solution. I am going to contact them about this problem; they might be more responsive if multiple people contact them.

Susan, that link does not appear to work. Still no response from Houzz. I've moved my Exchange List to an "idea book", which can be edited for updates... but I don't think that any of the work-arounds are searchable. I really miss the functionality which allowed searching through the Exchange Lists, there was such a vibrant reading atmosphere then. The Exchange Lists also showed up on web searches, I used to get a lot of trade requests from people who found them that way. All of those trade requests are virtually non existent now. :-(

Edit: The problem may actually be deeper than just the exchange lists; their absence may be incidental to the wholesale loss of member profile information. When I viewed my public profile, all of the profile info previously displayed there (such as the 'member since', and my profile statement) are also gone. Like the Exchange Lists, my profile info still shows up if I edit my profile... but it is not being displayed. I checked other members, they all seem to be missing that info as well. The pages appear to have been sanitized; I hope this is only a temporary situation, and that Houzz is working to restore the member pages to their previous condition.

I posted a thread about this issue on the Using Houzz forum. That forum has moderator responses, so hopefully we'll get a response:

I've just checked in here to see if there are any large swaps going on for fall. In the old days on garden web (2007-10) I use to participate in one sponsored by Godgarden (Willy) each year that was amazing. I'd send in 200 packets of freshly dried seed and get 200 packets back. I've not sought out one on houzz and the round robin group here seems different. does anyone know other sites that help facilitate swaps?

The registration process is a pain, but if can tough it out you may want to try Tomatoville.

Zeedman - yours as an Ideabook looks good.. Did you upload a file to that ideabook or paste your text into the ideabook description?

Beesneeds - if you click Your Houzz, then edit Profile and Settings, then on the LEFT side of the page click Advanced, scroll down and you should find your last entered Exchange list.

I’d recommend everyone copy them to something in case even your copy disappears. You can create a free Google doc - just open and paste in your copied text, I always keep a copy in Word.

Great ideas for a NON-userfriendly site! I think I just typed them into ideabook!

"Zeedman - yours as an Ideabook looks good.. Did you upload a file to
that ideabook or paste your text into the ideabook description?"

I just copied & pasted into the idea book. The idea books can be edited, so the list can be updated. No way to search exchange lists as idea books, though, I'm afraid that capability is gone for good. :-(

"I’d recommend everyone copy them to something in case even your copy disappears."

I concur. Since Houzz took over, I've been backing up my exchange list whenever I do an update. It is sad that we are having this problem again, after the exchange lists were previously deleted (and later restored) following the acquisition of GW by Houzz. It seems none of our data is safe here... I sincerely hope that Houzz again corrects this issue. I'm still waiting for the thread I linked to above to become publicly visible, it seems to be held up by the mods.

I don't see much activity on what used to be the gardenweb.com. I was introduced to a garden site that has new posts on it DAILY and the name is just GARDEN.ORG I have joined it and it is free UNLIKE Dave's Garden. There are a lot of forums and a seed exchange and plant exchange. Hope you all will check it out!

It also looks like uploading your own garden pics to Ideabooks is on the way out. Haven't been able to upload for awhile so created a new Ideabook to see if that would work - there is no upload photo option - only choose from Houzz photos if you click photos (or add a bookmark from other web space). I suppose for a free service we’ve been chewing up their storage. Looking like an effort to increase their profitability is underway. Can’t say I blame them (businesses have to stay in business).

That's weird... I haven't tried doing any photo uploads to ideabooks yet.. So I just went and tried it, and there was a "tiny" button to upload my own photos in the corner, along with sketches.... but then there was the huge tag in the middle of the idea book box and that was all Houzz stuff. It's almost like they were trying to hide the tiny button in the upper left corner.

I got through upload finding that button, then circling dots (and a few moments) while it uploads and then it goes back to my Ideabook and there are no new photos. even though it went through the motions. Can you successfully upload photos and have them show up?

I did... The first time I tried, I used the browse function and that failed. Then I tried just dragging an image off my desktop to the box, and that worked. Then when I tried to use the browse function a second time it worked. It worked kind of weird though. But the two images are sticking so far, lol.

I may have to try again. Thanks!

I looked at that garden org site and I think I will join. I would recommend that if anyone from GW joins, they use their same user name that they used on GW. That way we can find and/or recognize each other.

    I'm there also. (whocares195)

I used to love the gardenweb, this I don't really like ! :(

For what it's worth here is a link I use, just replace username. You might have to put -gw after your user name. Not sure how that happened. Yes, copy yor list somewhere else.

I tried that with my username, and the link brought up my trade list. It seems there is a temporary work-around... thanks, Pandora. Still, a pretty poor substitute for the direct link that vanished from the profile pages. At this point, it appears all the missing profile info will no longer be displayed.
