I potted up some seedlings yesterday that I intend to use as rootstock in the future. Two of them were in reptibark 1-1-1 (so not even 5-1-1) and three were in G&B Organics potting soil which is roughly a 3-1-1 with pine bark fines. The root balls on the 1-1-1 seedlings were smaller, drier, and overall not very impressive. The roots on the others looked great - yellow and white just as they should be and nice and large. This was almost certainly a case of me not watering the reptibark tree enough (1-3 times per week, the seedlings are growing inside under lights), not a flaw with reptibark itself, but I thought I’d pass on my findings nonetheless. I also had a higher germination rate in the potting soil.
