Is your weather average or above average?

Hi tropic breeze. It’s above average but you’d think they’d sense the shortening day, plus we haven’t had much water. It seems like not having much water would impact them more than the temperature. What do you think? Don’t get me wrong, I love hearing them this late in the season but I just wonder what makes them continue. Maybe their calls at this time of year are more a territorial thing then I’m mating thing??

You'd expect they'd have some sense of timing - how long the tadpoles would need to morph before winter catches up with them. Here sometimes during the dry season/winter they can be set off by certain sounds. Mostly sounds that approximate running or cascading water. A few weeks back one frog started when I was putting some fruit through the blender. I thought it was a bit of a stretch to equate that with any sound made by water.

That's funny about the blender. I know during the summer, if I'm watering something they immediately start up. I've always wondered if it's the sound of water, or can they smell it? I can get them started, just by imitating their call. Speaking of tadpoles.........I know this is probably a stupid question, but do the adults communicate in any way with the tadpoles?? We're supposed to go from the 90's (F), down into the 60's, so we'll see who's singing then. Up until a day ago, the hummingbirds have been at the feeder. Pretty late for them too.

That's an interesting question. I would doubt it. Many frogs will eat their own morphlings while they're still small. Although there are some frogs that hold their eggs in their mouths until they hatch. Of course, frogs don't open their mouths under water so no snacking on the progeny there. They would recognise them as no threat and just ignore them I think.

Climate change is bringing about a lot of changes, some animals will be winners, some will be losers.

Hmmm.....maybe humans will be some of the losers??
