SO my friend just handed me this very sad Phal. The leaves are very very dehydrated. It's been sitting in her dining room, high humidity but she told me that she can't even remember the last time it's been watered. The media she it in is potting soil, white sand, a small amount of bark and a small amount of LCF Sphag. The plant is currently in quarantine away from AAAALLLLLL of my other plants. My first thoughts on seeing these spots is insects but a very thorough inspection and see no mealies, no scale, no spider mites. It has some healthy roots and some dead roots (actually dead, not rotting) about a 50/50 mix on the dead/alive roots. Dead roots will be getting trimmed and the entire plant will be getting a new pot with correct growing media. But for the life of me I have no idea what those spots are. If it ever been outside I might say hail damage but that's a no go, perhaps it's damage from a previous infestation but I see no other evidence of pests. She says the plant never receives direct sunlight so I am ruling out sunburn. I'm all out of ideas. For now the poor little guy will stay in quarantine but my quarantine area is not ideal. It will do in a pinch but the plant would have better recovery results in a different area, but all of my "better" areas are currently occupied with all my other plant babies and I don't want to endanger them.
