The first thing that sticks out to me is the disproportionate amount of space delegated to the entry and foyer ...and hallway...I would re-think that lay out...maybe try the entry on a different wall...add some extra space to the tv room?

Forgot to mention that this is a reno of a 1970s side split not a new build so door has to go on that wall...the plan that is shown is if the entrance stays to the left...aesthetically I like the entrance centred but am lost as to how to change the inside so it works too!

I would work on the interior layout first. There is a lot of redundant space....hallway, foyer and entry on one end and several unidentified small rooms on the other end. Opening up an exterior wall will often get you involved with plumbing, electrical and roof support issues. What will it get you except symmetry? The interior layout looks a bit odd.
Maybe, if you can identify those odd rooms on the left end, we can make more sense of the plan.

The laundry/mud room is on the far left...followed by washroom...butler pantry...kitchen...main tv room

Adding another peak over new proposed location is overkill ...scale is off and diminishes the look of the other peaks..

Prefer the door to the left, not the center. Centering the door accents the roofline not the entry.

Are you adding on to the garage with this project or was that already done?

please post the as-built drawing of the existing layout if you can.

We added a garage which allowed for a larger mudroom and laundry area...

I think the entry is good where it is I do agree there is an awaful lot of space for an entry but is it worth renovating for I don’t think so.I also like the look of the old entry from the exterior. Some good landscape design would go a long way. I guess my question would be how does the original space function?

Can your market give you much ROI for extensive renovations on a split level? In my area, I don't think it does. Splits of all kinds have more Days On Market than other floor plans. But. If the money doesn't matter to you and you're just doing this for your own pleasure, that's cool too. You should do what makes you happy.

IMO, the cost for the change in entry is not worth your perceived benefit. Unfortunately with these layouts no matter what you do it's still a 1970 split level. (Our last house was just like this--a 1968 "tri-level" as they're called here.)

This becomes the new entry plan if we move the entrance to the middle...
