Have you considered a round table instead? I think you would have more choices that way.

I guess what I was thinking was 3 on each side and 2 on the ends. So, yes, a rectangle but not as long 4 on each side and 1 on the ends. I think this would fit the shape of the room a little better. I've never seen this so, I'm thinking that if there isn't a retailer that sells this shape then I may have to inquire about getting one built.

We make whatever size tables our clients want, but in general, we have not made many large square tables, as it is inefficient to have two people on the ends - it will require less square footage to have one person at each end with four on the sides. To get 10 people at a square table, it would have to be at least 78" x 78" and the center of the table would be extremely difficult to reach. A round table for 10 people would not be less efficient. You can fit a 78" square dining table in your space, if you want to have one built, but don't expect to find one already made. Make sure to mark out a template on your floor where you want to put the table and see how that looks to you. You may decide that you could get by with a smaller table - I tend to be generous with spacing of chairs and allow a minimum of 25" width per person.

I have a DR that is almost 13 x 13. My dining room table is almost exactly square with no leaves. It’s a very tight fit to seat 6 people at this table. A table that seats 10 people will have to be quite large and will never fit in that DReven if you have no other furniture in the room (a bad idea).

I constantly see these very small dining rooms in plans posted on GW and the OO always wants a table that will seat 10 in such a room. Get out your shoe horn! One should allow 24 - 26 inches per person at a table.

Have you considered what is called a racetrack? I think it's highly functional since the curved ends enable you to fit people more comfortably especially with pedestal seating - where are all those knees going plus it's a bit odd to have two at the head.

I also think the racetrack shape is less cumbersome visually.
