Which tub design do you prefer?

Freestanding and clawfoot tubs are both popular designs. Each one has it's own benefits, but which one do you prefer?

I love the idea of the claw foot tub. But All I can think of is having to clean under the tub and all the things that could end up being there.

In that case, a pedestal tub is a great option. They have the luxury of a clawfoot tub, but sit atop a pedestal so you don't have to worry about cleaning underneath the tub.

Love the claw tub! It has a cool vintage look to it. The other one honestly just looks like an oversized farm sink

I feel the first one is old style! I won't prefer that :)

We've got a free standing tub in our house, mostly because the perceived wisdom is that you have to have a tub. In three years, it's been used once. Should have gone for a bigger shower....

@jmm1837 - I know this collective "wisdom" that scares one into thinking one must do or not do something.

I am remodeling and got rid of the tub/shower combo in my master bath and installed a large walk in shower with luxury features for the way I clean myself :-).

Yeah, it was more the builder's wisdom than mine - in our previous house, we had two bathrooms, neither with a tub, and I never missed one. I will say, we have a big shower in the ensuite. The tub is in the other bathroom, and neither we, nor any of our guests, have bothered with it. But a bigger shower in that bathroom would have been nice.

If the bathroom is big enough, a soaker tub is nice, but I prefer the 1 piece, not the clawfoot - and certainly not the pedestal. I believe every house should have a bathtub somewhere (you never know when you're going to need to soak something), but for daily use I prefer a large shower; I converted the tub/shower in my ensuite easily and inexpensively into a large shower without changing the rest of the bathroom (i.e. on the same footprint as the former tub).

I think that the spam is just a consequence of Houzz allowing pros to promote their businesses, very much unlike our old GardenWeb rules. You don't have to open something if you notice it is by a pro and has a heading like this question does. I took a look to see if Vintage Tub and Bath was really doing promotion so blatantly, and short of telling us to go to their site, they are. It is just Houzz Rules!

Houzz has rules against self promotion as well. If a post is not designed to expressly answer a question posed in Dilemmas it’s SPAM. If a post is just an advertisement for a product, which this is, then it’s SPAM.

The problem is that many forum members are so used to those who break the rules that they don’t bother to report the SPAM. And it only gets worse. If everyone would not respond, and report it, it would stop. It wouldn’t receive any positive reinforcement.

I agree that this is SPAM. And should not be allowed. I'm going to flag it as such.

    Good to know!

We apologize if this poll has been perceived as spam. That was never our intention. As clawfoot tubs are becoming more popular in modern design, we were interested in seeing which style resonated more with designers; a clawfoot tub or a freestanding tub. As this poll has been running for several weeks, we see that freestanding tubs have a higher design interest rate. Houzz doesn’t seem to have an easy way of closing a poll and we are trying to find a solution so this post doesn’t continue to gain traction on a topic that has already been settled. If you are aware of a way to close a poll, please let us know, as we haven’t been able to find a solution.

" We apologize if this poll has been perceived as spam. That was never our intention. "

Then don't have links, which increases your hit count and serves as promotion. Ask for opinions, fine, but linking to your business is a little over the line, IMO.
