Beautiful old Maybeck: slideshow

I was catching up with some old e-newsletters and this lovely Berkeley CA Maybeck was for sale. Since the slideshow was captured on 7x7's site, it will remain an archived link even if the home has been sold. For lovers of woodwork, I think they'll enjoy the photos.

Have to say, though, that stove is a disaster, LOL. I'd take out a cabinet and make room for a classic OK&M or similar [smile]. But oh! those beams and moldings! Just gorgeous....

Amazing house - I love Maybeck's designs.

Now let us pray that it is not purchased and subsequently desecrated by some tech bro with no taste.

What a shame that it has no front yard to give it a beautiful setting. No front yard in a $3M plus house????

That is lovely! The living room with fireplace was probably my favorite downstairs room bc it wasn‘t as dark as the other rooms....probably due to the windows. Upstairs was gorgeous!

sheilajoyce, lot restrictions and crowded urban living mean front yards are not very important here in urban coastal CA. The fact that the lot contains a backyard of almost half an acre is probably 2/3 of the value of the asking price. Average lot sizes in the urban areas of Alameda County are 50x100'.

According to Zillow, this property sold for well over asking price which was $3.5M. Purchase price on Sept 6, 2018 was $4.03M, so it didn't sit long on the market.

The kitchen sink looks like it sits at a very low, unconventional height. And no under cabinet lighting... seems very dark in there.

I was hoping for more pics of the out building.
