Sounds like crown rot. You must be careful not to get water in the center of the crown.

Hi Mike!

Hope you are feeling better. Usually the leaves falling off is due to rot caused by water sitting in the crown. Not sure if you are growing in a greenhouse or in your house, but try to keep the crown dry. Maybe a fan to dry the crown.

Since you are growing in Mass., your Phals might do better growing on a windowsill. Just be careful, when you water, to stay away from the crown.

Also, do you leave your Phals outdoors over summer to catch the Fall drop in temps.? That should start spikes so when you bring them in you can grow out the spikes for your winter flowers.

Jane, I'll bet you miss the colorful trees and the refreshing air masses at this time of the year. Even the fall smells of fallen leaves on a very arm day for October. That is the kind of day it is here. It's mild, humid, the smell of fallen leaves and the colorful morning sun rise combined that are so nice.

Hey Mike. That's crown rot. That means ultimate death. No new leaves can form, so it will slowly die. The basal keiki (baby plant growing next to the one with crown rot) is the mother plant's attempt to reproduce before death. I'd repot using the advice from your previous thread and eventually the mother plant will die leaving the baby plant. You can't get the center of the plant wet. Or when you do, you must dry it with a tissue immediately.
