Jan, If I went with a 40" H x 30"W mirror, would it be strange to have so much empty space in a 72" vanity niche? The vanity is only a single sink, so I think it would be strange to add 2 mirrors.

Why is your tile being installed before your vanity is in?

Blubird - the vanity is going to be wall hung- the contractor did not want to drill through the tile.

Robert, The 12" gap may look weird. It's hard to say without knowing which light fixture you have specified. However, just as Raye says, I would add lighting to the right and left of the sink to evenly illuminate the face for proper grooming.

I'd be looking at lights like the ones posted below. Is it typical two have two separate switches for a light above the vanity and the lights on the side?

One more question - would it look weird to have a 30" or 36" wide mirror in the center of a vanity space that is 72" wide with a single sink? The wall is completely tiled with the below Emser Art wave pearl.

Yes, I love having each light fixture on a separate dimmer. That way I don't get blinded at night or first thing in the morning. Also a separate light over the shower (with build in exhaust fan) is great.

Yep, your eye does not deceive you. Its quite high, which might play with the shadows while doing your makeup.
