I’ve never made one, but the ones I’ve seen really look cool. Working with bias cut fabric is always harder for me, so I guess I’d go with WOF strips myself. I’m sure you’re correct though when you say that bias cut fabric would go around the curves more easily. If you cut as if you were making continuous bias binding you would have very few seams. That might be an advantage. This sounds like a great way to use scrap batting too. Be sure to post photos of your rug when you’ve finished.

I really do want to try this, thanks for posting about it. I went to Youtube and watched a video. I am wondering if this rug would work if you skipped on the batting. I might try a small sample. It just looks like an awful lot of fabric to sew through, even though you are using a big needle, I'm going to see if a flatter rug would look good.

Thank you for your input. I have seen one of these rugs in a local gift shop. The batting which should be the thinnest you can find does make the texture of the rug quite nice. With out the batting it would be pretty flat I think. I’m getting projects lined up to keep me busy during our long winter. I will post a picture when done.
