If the motor is mounted inside the housing, @ full blast it will not be quiet. You can have a motor installed in the attic space that will virtually eliminate the noise, however this can get pricey and your budget will not allow for this type of installation. I have a Faber 36" rated at 400 cfm and it is very reasonable on low, not too bad on medium, however sounds like a freight train on high. A bit annoying sometimes, however it does get the job done.

I've been really happy with my Victory Range Hood (Tofino 30). It's not ultra quiet but is very well made. They may have quieter options on their website
