It looks like a Physalis species to me. Here is a link to the bonap for Physalis. Perhaps P. longifolia?

It is definitely a physalis but which one may be up for some discussion :-) The flowers and fruit production of all are pretty similar. Physalis heterophylla seems to be the most common species in your area.

You are most welcome Parker. The bonaps are so helpful to narrow down possibilities. Yours seems to have very smooth stems and relatively smooth foliage so I thought P. longifolia might be likely. The ones I see here are very fuzzy.
