You don't mention but do you have a range hood and if so, do you use it when you're using the burners and/or the oven? That should help exhaust heat.

Ceiling fans in kitchens ... do you have can lights? If the blades overlap the lights' beams, you're going to have a strobe effect when the fan is spinning. You'd also have to keep it scrupulously clean so as not to spin dust and whatever onto food as the blades spin.

Is your kitchen open to a family or living room? If so, mount a ceiling fan in that area and use it when you cook to circulate air and help dissipate kitchen heat.

You could also wear a cooling bandana while you cook. I use one when I garden in hot weather. Works great!

We had a ceiling fan in the kitchen years ago and I do miss it sometimes, but when it died we replaced it with more lighting. I also did not have a gas range, and I would worry the ceiling fan would blow the flames around. Our kitchen is in the warmest room of the house, so now when it gets hot (baking/cooking in July/August) I bring a little oscillating fan in and stop the oscillating and point it away so it doesn't mess with the flames on the range, but it still moves the air. That being said,ceiling fans have come a long way as far as style...don't know how easy it'd be to clean but here's one over on Wayfair:

I personally don't like/want a ceiling fan in the kitchen, so I just bought a large pedestal fan and use it when I need it and take it back to the garage when I don't. I use compressed air to clean it every couple of uses. Been doing it for years on those really hot days. The air conditioning is enough on most days, but there are a few where it can get pretty warm in there.

I love a kitchen ceiling fan, and I love the LIGHT KITS because they can really put out the wattage.

Show us your kitchen and maybe we can show you a fan for it. What looks good in my kitchen might look cheesy in yours...you gotta match the fan to the room for it to be right.

A ceiling fan will seriously disrupt the rising and expanding cooking plumes that you hope to capture with the cooktop hood. Let the hood airflow provide replacement air for that area, and if necessary, add additional ventilation at the ceiling for ovens. Note that all of this ventilation will require make-up air, which may need to be conditioned. Separate air conditioning needs to be positioned to minimize drafts at the hood.

I have a 1200cfm fan hood on the stove. I think the real "fix" would to be to add my cooling vents to the kitchen, but if that is not doable, then a ceiling fan would help.

I would not be without my ceiling fan. Just cleaned it yesterday.

I was thinking a smaller unit like what dunnjn suggested, or get the ceiling fan of your dreams. It can always be replaced by a different light down the line.

A ceiling fan will significantly reduce the effectiveness of your exhaust hood. I don't think you'd be happy with that. What size is your Make Up Air system? How does it feed in to your kitchen?

Do you need lights in the fan? Will it replace one of the pendants? I'd try to match them in style. It'll look totally fine in there.

(If it disrupts your stove-top cooking exhaust/flame, it'll still be nice while prepping, cleaning, running the oven, etc.)

My first thought was, NOOOOO! Ceiling fans in a kitchen; fan dust, yuck. Cleaning the fan, dust and grease. Double yuck. But, when you're hot, you're hot! LOL. Where would you place the ceiling fan? Maybe you could replace the pendants with something like this:

We had a ceiling fan over our eat in table. I hated that thing. Even though it wasn't over the main kitchen area, it got really gross. I was so happy to see that thing go.

We love our Matthews Fans ceiling fan (installed in 2007 when we renovated the kitchen). They have a number of cool looking models.
