Sloped to normal ceiling...how do we do this?

We are adding 5 ft onto a small master bath that was built under the stairs. I don't really want to continue that sloped ceiling, any ideas?

I don't think it is going to look bad. Just depends on how you decorate and use that space. The ceiling differential will look much like a soffit does or like many rooms that transition from a vaulted (or barrel) ceiling to a standard flat ceiling.

Are you saying that the added space will be further under the stairs (behind the sink)? If so, what do you plan to put in the 5'? The sink and toilet must have head height of 6' 8" directly over them so they can't be moved back into this space.

no it will be to the left of the sink, the little wall that is mainly posts in this picture will be removed. WHen i expand out to the left I won't have to go with the slope ceiling but not sure how to transition...I will be putting a new vanity in this new larger space, the toilet and shower will stay.

It is a little hard to see but since this is a stairway there should be a double beam at the top of the slope. The weight is carried by another double beam connected at a right angle to that where the wall you are taking out. Or that double 2x4 at the end of the wall is supporting the beam at the top of the slope. Either way there is something supporting the stairway. If you have nothing to suport that side of the stairway it will fail years down the road. Make sure someone checks the framing before you preceed.

there's a post inside the wall that will not be removed to support the stairway....what i need is ideas how to deal with the sloped ceiling, I really don't want to bring it all the way out 5-6 more feet with that slope. :(

I think I would just ignore it. center your sink and mirror in the new "non-sloped" area and just extend counter under the sloped area. I do think it is important that the ceiling matches up flush though.

I think it will look funny to have a partially sloped wall. Or are u getting rid of the current slope too? We have a similar issue w our extension and our archietect said we had to continue the slope Bc we couldn't undo it (and it would effect the outside of house too)

i've decided to not slope the new ceiling area, I am in the process of this now, I will post pictures when finished but I think it's going to be okay! :) Thanks for your input. ")
