If I were your parents, I'd tell you to look for something completely different.

Stupid gift that will get shoved in a drawer. No one wants more useless stuff at that age. Buy them restaurant gift cards. Or a housekeeper. Or a meal delivery service. Something they can use.

If they don't like/use Alexa, the answer is no smart home display. Alexa is pretty much the easiest to use, and the screens will be more, not less, complicated. Listen to Sophie and get them something else that they actually want, not something you think they should want.

I gave my mother a google mini for her 90th birthday last year (because she has everything else LOL). She loves being able to ask it for the weather forecast, stock prices, store hours, news, reminders, etc. Honestly, I was surprised how quickly she took to it, since she's absolutely horrible at technology in general. I recently got her 2 smart light bulbs, and now she can tell google to turn them on or off when she's in bed or entering a room. She selected one of google's male voices and she calls him "my boyfriend." She still lives by herself and says she loves having the company. :-)
