Are valances in or out for 2018?

I have some great linen fabric and thinking of doing a couple valances for my kitchen. Is there a type of valance that would look current?

Roman shades are the new valances. More functional too, if you want them to be. I’ve seen stationary Roman shades as well, they don’t close, more just for window decoration.

I'm with Karen on the Roman shades, however, I think a tailored valance (box pleats) is a classic look. The droopy ones are outdated.

A nice box valence can look sharp, but on the whole they're not that popular. Still, it's your house! If it goes with the space, party on!

You confirmed what I thought and after some research found that a good french or box pleat is in with a geometric pattern and is current for 2018. The window wasn't looking complete so I have spent the afternoon making one and it looks finished now.

post pictures! I'll be making box pleat valances for my family room as soon as I narrow down my fabric selection. My father made some awesome wood buttons out of viburnum that I am going to embellish with.

I think a tailored valence or pelmet is always a nice finishing touch.
