I like how your inspiration has wood siding to highlight the front door area. Without that it would be less welcoming IMO. Even if you tried to do something similar, the two house styles are very different. What will you do with the columns?

A very dark house is a wonderful settting for playing very loud creepy music at night and having a few lights which go on and off repeatedly...

You won't have to worry about evening visitors.

Thank you chicagoans! Kind of you to put that together for me. So from the feedback, I understand this is a bad idea. Back to the drawing board. I just can’t do the white and black windows farmhouse.

I would suggest a mid-grey. Not as dark as charcoal, but more of a medium tone. This is what a dark charcoal grey, dark roof and black windows would look like. While a little black dress looks great, I think that this dark on dark on dark creates a foreboding effect.

Why not add a little warmth by going with a medium grey? Highlight the windows with a white trim? I think this has a more classic appeal.

I've never seen white trim as adding to a design like your inspiration image. Which is modern. I would never choose it. Matter of taste. Anyway you've got black frame windows already installed. . . . . .The recessed area surrounding your entrance protected under the overhang- that could be cedar like your inspiration image. Same with the area under the rear overhang. . . . . .

I don't see the white roof on the inspiration home as a good design choice. It's more of a required workaround. So your roof color can be additive if integrated correctly. The house siding can be lighter or darker in the same grey tone which is hopefully warm grey. You have to compare colors to the roofing material. I like to make garage doors the same color as the siding to avoid standing out with a large flat space. Trim a tone lighter or darker.

Benjamin Moore Nantucket Gray is a really great color for siding. It is a grayish green. Couldn't find a good photo.

Suggests picking a garage door that blends in. What about adding a cedar effect on the one side of the house with cedar look

I thought of that, of course. But you'll have to put a lot more effort into maintaining surfaces not protected by overhangs on south and western exposures. And it takes away from the justification for being able to use that type of finished wood trim. But it's your choice. It'll look good It just won't look like a good choice. Hard to explain.

The design styles of your new house and your inspiration house are very different . In my opinion, your idea of very dark siding, with black window trim, black roof and wood accents will not give a similar feel as your inspiration photo. I would use colors more in keeping with the style of your new build and use a lighter color siding.

This seems like it's just the thing you're asking for.

I think this house is quite attractive, and not gloomy looking. The fr.door and posts could be made a lighter cedar color and still work I think.

I like it, but prefer the trim and the siding color in charcoal homes. I have seen better examples but can't figure no them right now

Matt m! Exactly what I’ve been searching for. Thank you for finding! I agree, I do not think it looks gloomy, in Cedar accents would help.

Matt M's color combination is a lighter body with the darker trim. But, it seems to cast warmer than grey. On my screen it is a very dark tan. I think it's attractive.

Pick a couple of colors before you make a final commitment and paint them on the house in a large format. Swatches can mislead.

I've lived that first hand. I wanted to paint my home the color of a vanilla ice cream cone. My painter tinted the primer with the color that I imagined I wanted. Thank goodness he did that. It was a giant stick of butter. I went back to the paint store and told them about my problem. He suggested walking around the corner and looking at the Lounge/Bar on the street behind the paint store. Sure enough, that was the color I wanted. I would have never picked it up from the paint sample.

Be sure to post pictures when they finish it.

Ugh I meant to say, paint the trim and the siding the same charcoal color. I would do the window muntins and sashes black but not the window trim
