Question about Fence. Do I have a problem????

We replaced our fence this past week. The design that we chose was a cap and rail as shown in this photo

When the fence was built, the top boards were joined at the top of the post as follows:

I have concerns about it being joined at the top of a post. Won't it promote water damage to the post? Should I have them redo the top boards? Any other suggestions? TIA.

    That sort of joint just adds to the structural integrity of the fence. And is no more likely to cause problems for the posts than leaving them uncapped and fully exposed to the elements, which is an equally common approach.
