I HATE all this Sydney rain at the moment!!!!
What a disappointing spring it is here in Sydney, so far!!
We are having a protracted rainy spell just at the moment, that has been going on for WEEKS, with no end in sight......or at least it seems that way.
It couldn't have come at a worse time for hippy growers.......red blotch is suddenly running rife in the garden, and any developing buds are being badly affected. A number of my smaller up-and-coming bulbs have already rotted with the constant weeks of wet, and the mature bulbs that have managed to flower have very sad bedraggled looking blooms. The only decent blooms are from plants in the small protected under-cover area I have available to me. This is not a great start to the season.
Bulbs growing out in the GARDEN BEDS seem to be faring much better, with only minor red blotch showing, but the pot-grown bulbs aren't so lucky.....even with fast draining soil mixes! Spraying fungicide in this weather is pointless as it washes straight off, but I have gone ahead and done it anyway- ever hopeful.
I will have to come up with much more under cover areas for the future, but it's too late for this season.

( Even 'Mt Edgecombe' has a spot! I'm spraying frequently to keep it at bay. )

Even my lovely vintage rosy-red is looking a right old mess, as well as getting red blotch all over.........Aghhh!

Hi Blanca,
Luckily the most precious are safe enough and sitting out the rainy weather under my ( now very crowded ) plastic covered table. But many other bulbs are sadly exposed to this dreary weather, and trying to cope as best they can. At least they are large enough ( hopefully ) to survive and recover from the soaking conditions. It's the younger bulbs sitting in their roomier/wetter pots that are having the most trouble. Quite a few have rotted out completely. None were of any great value, but it is a shame to lose them. Many of the survivors I have taken out and planted directly into the open ground, so hopefully they will do a little better there.
The Maguire's bulbs are soaked through and through, but they have to take their chances, as I won't risk moving them out from under their screened cover. They have proved before to be very tough, at least.
It is mainly my younger seedlings and 12 to 24 month old bulbs that have been most badly affected, and of course, all the poor flowers! If only it would only stop raining!
Anything of value that looks in danger of being lost, I will try unpotting and dusting as you suggest. Thank you for the advice.
As for the seedlings- well, I suppose I will end up with the most resistant of them surviving, and that could be some kind of a positive.....I suppose.
