What do you think?

Furniture was brought from another house, but I need to make it work here. Fireplace wall is going to be redone and when it is we will have the entire room painted. So please ignore the shelf decor and ugly marble. ( fireplace thread is available if you have ideas). I’m thinking agreeable grey for this room and adjoining library will be navy. I loved having the sofas opposite each other but in this house if I do that the view from the front entry is the back of a long couch. What do you think of this arrangement?

So if I lose the side table... I feel like I should find a new coffee table since that black one would be the only black in this room. Yes? Any suggestions?

You can change grey marble by Black Sahara marble

    and add black modern table

I cannot fully see the room ,but right t of the bat that coffee s covering up the colors in the rug ,go with a glass table.

your coffee table is so dark in a dark sea of rug lol....I would go for somethign glass but also with some nice curves to mimic the shapes in your rug. it also seems it is too small to be functional for one of the couches.

I wouldn't make it the focal point of the room by having a super bright colored table, but something a bit brighter colored and less chunky than what you have now.

So I switched the loveseat for the navy chairs from master seating area. The love seat works in the bedroom seating area..but...is this an improvement here or not?

Here’s the view from the entry...

I like the color change but feel the scale/style of the chairs are off from the sofas.

Great chairs BTW! They would be over the sofa cos they are closer to camera. :-))

It looks very nice, classy and soothing. I'd suggest adding a third color in small dosages, like accessories, either green (like the plants) or a brighter blue, or perhaps some gold metal.

The problem with moving the second sofa to where the chairs are is the sofa makes a barricade to the entry. Is that what you are suggesting? I can move it back and see what you think.

Here is with sofa table ...taken from entry.

Sofa blocking the entry just doesn't work.

But that impacts the walk way...

Thanks celery girl... I do love my velvet chairs! I'm just thinking they are a bit too high and block the view,... which I kind of enjoy.

nosoccermom thank you.out for the compliment. I'm hoping to redo the fireplace wall and shelves and then will enjoy searching for accessories and art! I do think green will be nice to bring more of the outdoors in.

Love the name...mine could be nolongerasoccermom. Lol

I think yes, place the two sofas facing each other. Place the chairs facing the fireplace.

Will that sofa table fit behind the sofa with its back to the entry? If you display some nice eye catching accessories, your focus would go there, instead of feeling like you're staring at the back of a sofa.

do you think the last picture with the table jutting into the walkway a bit is too cramped? There is 40 inches clearance ...and table is 4 inches further into walkway than the adjacent wall.

Can you scoot the sofa 3-4 inches closer into the room?

Sofa can't move into the room more than it is or the seating area becomes to claustrophobic. Might be able to make it work if I got a different coffee table.

I "stole" the chairs from master seating area, so they will happily go back there!

So consensus is the sofas facing each other looks better than the L shape arrangement. And keep the oversized chair rather than the two navy chairs?

If so then I am back to my fireplace dilemma....

I actually prefer the navy chairs to the loveseat.

Can you purchase a shallower sofa table for behind the one with its back to the entry? One that's a tad longer might be nice, too.

Don't think I need to go to the gym today... reintroduced the navy chairs. They don't block the view here, but maybe just one rather than two?

I think that arrangement looks great! Nice room!

When you're sitting on the sofas, can you reach the coffee table?

Not urgent, but if you do want to scoot the sofas closer into the room a tad, you might look at a rectangular coffee table. That square one actually looks a bit small to me.

Fine for now, but just something to think about down the road!

Beverly. Feel free to read and comment on the fireplace wall in the post "light a match to this fireplace". I need ideas!

For between the two chairs instead of dark wood with glass top that's too much like the coffee table.

gm_tx there is 24 inches from the table to the front of the sofa...so you do have to lean in a bit. I would love to replace tables but we need to find out the cost on the fireplace wall redo first...unless of course the powerball comes in for us.

I do have an antique round side table (wood tone that matches the dining room and the sofa table) if you think I need to replace the square one between the chairs?

Beverly , No not adjustable. if you go to https://www.houzz.com/discussions/light-a-match-to-this-fireplace-wall-dsvw-vd~5305982?n=88 you can see the dilemmas with the whole wall. I am planning on redoing the mantle, marble and shelves but haven't gotten a workable solution yet.

today’s addition.... I liked Leelees gold accent so brought in this Waterford lamp with gold trim.

Pretty lamp:) I almost feel like just the two sofas facing each other is enough...is there enough room to walk in between the two chairs and your dining table?

Kjoy... honestly it is pretty tight with the two chairs. Space wise it works a bit better with the matching loveseat.

yeah agreed...too much furniture in here. it almost makes it feel cluttered, id just stick with the two sofas for seating

    Kris Bruesehoff thanked J D

Have you tried moving the two sofas down toward the kitchen and putting the two chairs flanking the fireplace? Is there enough room?

    Kris Bruesehoff thanked tenamarie123

Tenamarie... interesting idea. There is room, though I feel like there needs to be a definition between the living room and dining area. I'll give it a try though.

If you do like the chairs flanking the fireplace you could always put your sofas back in an L-shape if you want the separation.

    Kris Bruesehoff thanked tenamarie123

Tenamarie, I tried...it makes the rug seem too short. And with the mismatched angled walls off the fireplace the chairs look awkward. Now if I can figure out how to fix that wall maybe worth trying again.

Revisiting this thread to give an update. We finally painted, taken down the mirror, gotten rid of all fake plants and a few other accessories. Still no changes to the fireplace or shelves as quotes have all been too high or not what I wanted. We will be adding back in a shelf on the window side.

Any suggestions for coffee table? Or other ideas?

Since both of you commented on the above the fireplace ... artwork or mirror. I think that takes precedence over the table?

Most of the art we currently have is too small, or horizontal, so doesn’t work here. Do you think I should put the mirror back ? OR do you like this ? at least until we can go to art fairs again?
