Counters and sink installed!

We are still waiting on the (mysteriously missing) upper cabinet doors, but things are finally coming together. Appliances will be installed on Friday.

Wee little homework counter

Counter is Glacier White Corian and sink is Karran Edge 440. Love!

Looks great so far! What kind of appliances are you getting?

Very pretty. I'm using the same Corian and seeing yours really solidifies that I made the right choice. It looks velvet-y.

I had that Corian for two decades and it is very easy to live with. You are both going to be very pleased with your decision.

Stainless. KitchenAid french door fridge will replace our biscuit workhorse Amana, which is at least 20 years old (but doesn't seal well anymore), Maytag dishwasher that should actually work, and a Frigidaire Gallery slide-in induction range to replace our white bare bones GE gas range of 18 years. This is luxury for me. So delighted!

Rita, I keep wanting to just run my hands all over the Corian. I don't because it's dusty and I don't have water yet, but I love it.

We also had our interior basement door refinished bc with new trim and a light right outside the door, it was apparent that that door had not been stained at the same time as the rest of them, or with the same stain. All the doors in the house are pickled oak with the original antique hardware, and that one was kind of beech-looking. We never noticed b/c of the crap lighting and ugly kitchen, but it was such an eyesore once the work started. Omg, the door is beautiful now. I want to put it in a picture frame. I so wish I had taken a picture of it before it was stripped.

That kitchen is looking terrific; it’s very clean-looking. If you’re new to living with Corian, you’re in for a treat because it really is so forgiving. I’ve had mine for maybe 20 years now and they’re still practically perfect.

I just forced my 11yo to admire the grain, or to at least pretend to.

OH be still my pit pattering heart! I adore your cabinets and wood trim! Stunning.

Looks great and that's a Karran E-540 sink. I'd have them re-profile the sink edge a little more rounded before the faucet goes in.

Ironically, there was just a thread here about some granites being too busy. No busy problem here and no fighting with the splash and floor either.

I hate multiple busy finishes. I'd rather have boring than busy, although I won't have to worry about that with the turquoise.
I am surprised about the sink. My designer invoice says 440, which is what I asked for, but I don't have any paperwork from the fabricator. The 540 is perfectly fine, but I think I'll see what I was charged. It's generally more expensive, right?

still - that looks like a 440 to me. We have a 540 in our lake house and I think that the drain sits much closer to the back of the sink.

Ditto what Joseph says about having that sink edge rounded off a bit. You'll be glad when your edge won't chip every time you bang a pot or pan into it.

    So exciting! SO exciting!!!

benjesbride, do you like my little counter? we ended up doing that instead of the Ikea pull-down table because it was too deep, and skipping a custom pull-down seemed like a good way to save a bit of cash. The counter looks shallower than it actually is. It's 15" deep, *and just wide enough for one person to sit at, plus it gives us landing space next to the door. We will put lesser used things on those shelves to the right of it. And we will have a coat and shoe closet! Of course, that was custom and cost us plenty - lol - but it will be so nice to be able to hang up our coats where we used to but have them covered. And a shoe cabinet in my tiny kitchen is so welcome. No unsightly dirty shoes laying around. Win!

*there is a nice, deep, heavy bracket providing support under the counter overhang

I do! Very smart. I love the proportions and placement of your window. Having a place to perch right there and enjoy it is a great idea.

Have you found a stool for that spot? I love all of your thoughtful choices in here and I'm curious what you've envisioned for a stool.

I'm seriously loving the glacier white with the pickled (?) oak. LOVE.

Can't wait to see your reveal thread. Can.not.wait!

I haven't looked for a stool yet, but I was envisioning a basic, light wood stool (or maybe metal?). Idk if it will have a back or not. A back is better functionally, but then we wouldn't be able to tuck it all the way under the counter, and I'd like to do that. I also thought about one of those folding chairs that can also be a stepstool, but those are a bit costly. Something to think about. Maybe we'll start out with a cheap and plain stool and then take our time finding just the right one.

Foldable is a good idea. Maybe it can hang on the wall behind the door. Ikea has these... https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70404875/

Whoops. But you said stepstool. That's a great idea.

That might work too though. I know I'll need a stepstool somewhere, since the uppers are so tall, but I won't need it all the time. We can tuck that into the "closet." It would be neat if it was both a stepstool and a bar stool, but that might be asking for a bit much. And the one I saw previously was a stepstool/chair, not stepstool/barstool. They may need to be 2 different stools.
We actually have a beautiful light wood Ikea stepstool in my son's room, and he doesn't use it. It doesn't fold, though, and I don't think there will be a place to keep it in the kitchen.

Could I get away with something like this or is it too MCM? I like the idea of either a low back or a grooved seat. And it has to have legs and no upholstery.

My friend has low back counter stools -- maybe from cb2?--and they're very comfortable.

How wide is the drawer stack to the left of the sink?

Are you hoping to have full access to the sink while someone is seated at the window?

I think you were on a good track when you said a counter stool/ step stool. This one is 14.5" deep and should store nicely under the overhang while pulling double duty as a step stool: https://www.wayfair.com/storage-organization/pdp/boraam-industries-inc-3-step-wood-step-stool-baa1139.html

Oh my gosh, that’s all so beautiful! You will love the Frigidaire induction range. I had the predecessor in my last kitchen (we moved) and it was awesome.

stillpitpat thanked Nothing Left to Say

This is the other kind I was thinking of (in front, not the white chairs in back).

I think the drawer stack is 21" so there should be enough room. And who knows, it may not get used a lot for sitting. We'll have to see when we "move in."

So I forgot that I already have a folding stepstool. It's ugly, but I could probably just keep it in the closet with the coats. It's metal and folds up flat. It's more ladder-like than stool-like. And I have a pretty non-folding wood one. So maybe I should just focus on the sitting stool.

Question: obv my cabs and trim are pretty light, but the room will also have some oil rubbed bronze in it (door hardware, beautiful but secret pendant) and a dark brown rug at the door. Could the counter stool be a dark finish? It would be pretty hard to match my cabinets, in that most of the light stools I see are lighter, more like birch. I think I'd like to go all-wood so as to avoid either chrome or industrial looking stools. I don't think I'd want white, as the counter is white, and the wall behind it will be white tile and white paint. Could I do something like the last pic I posted but in a darker stain? I def want something with a low back and/or a stool with a contoured seat for stability.

ETA: last post for now (ha). I'm also wondering about a stool with a "saddle" seat. I find them visually striking, and I think it would also offer a bit of stability. Probably will get one of these two types:

I too like the saddle seats. They look good and they are comfy. My pastor sits on one that looks like the lower, dark stool you posted--he's a big dude and sits through four services on sundays which is a testimony to its comfort :-)

I like the saddle seat (bottom stool) and think the darker wood would be a nice compliment to those stunning cabinets.

Cool! When the painters take up their dropcloths, I'll put one of our dark dining chairs there just to see how it looks. If I go with a dark saddle seat, I'll have lots of buying options. And it will for sure fit all the way under the counter.

Another question on the saddle stool: I like the look of this one because it is thick and solid-looking. Would that look good with my kitchen or is it too heavy-looking?

Would something like this look better? They are the same height (25"), although the above looks shorter.

Hmm, now I'm wondering about the stool leg spread too. I'm not sure, but the upper one looks like the feet are a little closer together. I'll have to look into that. I won't prioritize style over stability. Questions, questions.....

Love it! You'll love the Glacier White Corian. We just combined it with a colorful granite (Blue Pearl Royale) and we are loving them both. The Corian is so smooth and silky. It's like solid cream!

The countertop guys came out yesterday to install a strip of Corian that was needed behind the range, and I did have them reprofile the sink edge so it's a wee bit more rounded. I am loving both the sink and the counters!
