It’s beautiful, will you be using it on an island or all of your countertops? Also it depends on how much countertop you actually have. I think it works as long as it’s not too much. Also using a simple backsplash would be advised.

It’s beautiful ! But I agree too much will kill the serenity of the space . I would use that slab as an island and leave the counters more simple because The floor is spectacular , and you want that to take a spotlight as well . Walls I would leave reeeaaally light .

I think it will look great as long as you go with simple elements everywhere else. You don't want the space to become too busy.

We are going to have a built in bar (in this room but on a wall you can't see in the pic), plus the kitcken. it's about 70 sq ft. of countertop between the two. We won't have an island, but will have a large peninsula. here is a picture of the kitchen in relation to the family room. It's an "opened up" galley basically. Maybe we should just do either bar or kitchen in this? or should they be the same stone?

I think it will look great! Go with a very simple monotone backpslash with matching grout so it doesn't complete with your other elements.

From the picture of the countertop stone, it looks great, though it's hard to tell exact colors. I like it, especially with white cabinets--it seems to pick up the tones in the floor color/stone walls as well. I'd suggest a neutral backsplash, but I'd say go for it Dee.

Have you thought of refinishing the fireplace?

We have, but we kind of like it and the budget didn't really allow for it. We are going to wait and see how the room feels once everything we have planned is done. we had a floor to ceiling brick fireplace in our last house that we hated when we moved in, but once everything got done around it we loved it - and so did the 7 people who placed offers on that house. Fingers crossed for the same outcome here (although this house will be ours for awhile!)

It's either the fireplace or that piece of countertop stone. You can't use both in the same kitchen - just way too busy and confusing. They're both beautiful, just not together.

I agree with Anglo. I love the stone and was about to say go for it, and then I saw the fireplace. If you're planning on keeping the fireplace as is I think you need a quieter stone. If you love the stone, what about paining the fireplace while you save up for a real redo.

i love the counter, but with your floors and FP, everything is fighting for attention. i would go simpler with counters. if really love it, maybe just for the bar?? depends where its in relation to kitchen and FP. if u use on bar, then kitchen counter should be very simple, a compliment to the other elements.

its a tough one b/c all the elements are beautiful but all together, visual overload, imo.

Thanks everyone for your input. I don't "have to have" this stone. So if it doesnt work or will overwhelm we can continue to look for other options. It's tough because the natural stones vary and do seem to compete, and the quartz looks fake with all of the other "natural" stuff around. Soapstone is beyond our budget although its a nice option.

Hi Dee, now...don't let me make you crazy, but I'm still liking the countertop as a good counterpoint to the plain white cabinets, lol! It's not like the kitchen is butting up to the fireplace--it's in another room and far enough away from the fireplace to be visually separate. Use neutrals elsewhere as the countertops will hold their own in the kitchen. I'd say follow your heart, Dee, I like it.
