Accent wall help

I apologize if this has been discussed before. I did a search, but couldn’t find anything... We just moved into a new house and my husband has pretty much gave me free reign on all the design picks so far. He has one room that he wants to be his “man cave” so to speak (the upstairs extra room). He’s into genealogy and is quite proud of his Scottish ancestors. So proud, he wants to make the room some sort of medieval atmospheric type of design theme. Right now the room is painted agreeable gray, and has light grayish cellular shades. He’s asked for my help in painting it a darker color and was thinking maybe a dark charcoal type of gray might help him to set the stage for the look he’s going for. My question is, could I leave one (accent) wall agreeable gray or does an accent wall have to be the darker wall? I don’t have to have the accent wall, but was just wondering if it may add some contrast.
