Is this Tree sap?

I noticed a few weeks ago my VPE cutting was turning a little brown near the bottom..
Today I looked at it carefully and it has a sticky substance on the brown part. Looks like sap... What should I do, if anything about this?

One of the reasons for using a root-stock and grafting the top variety is to prevent soil borne diseases like this. Rootstocks are often more resistant and some top varieties are more susceptible to such problems.

If this is a rooted cutting, which looks likely, you should never replant deeper than before. It is just asking for trouble. I also always replant potted cuttings so the highest roots are at soil level or even just above. It doesn't look so neat and tidy, but it definitely prevents some problems.

Citrus gummosis eh... Doesn't sound too good. I'll have to google what that is.

I think the infection is taking over, the trunk is turning brown and a little bit of a bottom branch. Leaves keep falling off despite prime spot in the house.

I already took two small branches to try making new cuttings... Is there any coming back from this or should I just chop it up and make a bunch of cuttings? I don't expect too many to survive.

Dave, is it planted too deep or is it planted at the level of root collar? In the past I had a lemon cutting and the exact thing happened, it killed my tree. I try to plant my trees with a little root zone showing above the soil, especially cuttings or/and airlayers. Sorry to see your tree like that!

I just got this tree this summer. I did re-pot earlier this summer... If I planted it deeper, it wasn't much because I had a branch that was pretty much touching the ground... SO maybe 1cm deeper. I'll give it another week or so but if it gets worse, I might just chop it up, get another 4-5 cuttings and hopefully 1 of them survives.
