Is this a baby cockroach? (insect identification)

I found this in my house, dead and dried up. What insect or bug is it? It has 6 legs and was a orange/brown/red color. It was the size of a rice grain (approximately) and had two "antennas" and hard shelled abdomen. I am located in Northern California, so it could be a beetle or cockroach.

Not a cockroach nymph; those have very long antennae at all nymph stages.

It looks more like one of the indoor pest beetles.

Not a beetle nymph....beetle life cycle doesn't include a nymphal stage, but the very unique larval stage followed by the pupae. Beetle larvae do not have antennae. Also, the appendages on the posterior are unique to cockroaches or close relatives.

This insect bothers me.....I can't quite call it a cockroach nymph but can't turn away from it, either.

I missed the abdomen spines, so let's try the related-to-cockroaches termites.

If cockroach nymph, both ("dead and dried up" )antennae would have broken off to the same length.
