Design help please!

I’m in desperate need of a bedroom makeover and don’t want to spend a fortune. My issues..
1. Color- I’m not a fan of the lavender, but it’s a fairly new coat of paint so I’m hesitant to change it.

2. I made a poor choice when I first put up white Roman shades and a white upholstered (and plain square) headboard. Shade replacement is expensive but maybe I should just ditch the headboard?

Any/all ideas are welcome.

3. I don’t have anything above the bed..

I would buy a white comforteR. Use your current spread as an accent. Fold it up by the foot of the bed. Keep the same pillows for a pop of color by the headboard. Buy a matched pair of much taller lamps. They should be as tall as the lock on your window. Purchase a piece of art that picks up your current spread's color.

Better photos would help. The room is simply suffering a total lack pf decoration. That includes your bedding, and I don't understand the rug with the bedding or wall color. You begin with bedding. Why the lavender, and why not a change if you don't like it?

Search Houzz for bedrooms you love.........post a few here. Nobody can help without some idea of what you want, or like. Not this below I presume? : )

Unless you provide some direction, you will simply get two hundred confusing opinions and suggestions. The headboard isn't the problem

It is always first about the bedding.............

That headboard is nice and simple and will work with a multitude of bed linens - keep it!

You could use some real lamps for a start. Taller than that dinky thing you've got. In the meantime, let's pretend you have lighting and we can see what's in the room.

    Thank you all!

Jan- I wasn't sure that I could post pics from my Ideabook without giving credit to photographer/designer. Will do momentarily, though I actually love all of the pics you posted. (I am flexible with design, and really want something that seems tied together/finished and not random/undecorated.)

In answer to some of your questions.. The rug was what we had from our old house (in a different room) when we moved and the lavender was what the previous owners had just painted the bedroom before selling. The only thing I love in the room is our bedroom furniture. I am open to painting, but the lavender is nice enough and I don't have the time until the spring to do it myself (which I would prefer to do.)

I will try to start with the bedding.. :) Thank you again for your detailed and thoughtful reply!

Pink peony- love these ideas- thank you! Would you continue with the purple/gray combo on a rug?
Personally, I like the white headboard, especially for its versatility. Whatever color(s) you choose for the room, you know that headboard will work. However, if you decide you’d like something in a different color or in a pattern, Google “headboard slipcovers.” Since you have a perfectly rectangular style headboard, these slip right over and are easy to change out the look. Or, sew it yourself! Think of the variations. Just another thought.

Ddrake i added some rugs for you. I originally thought you had wall to wall carpet so didn’t go there. I see it’s wood floors now. ;-)

You are on the way , new high lamps and lovely bedding ...it's ok to be all white ...maybe you should whitewash the two wood pieces also ...a lovely mirror with gold frame ...look for ideas ..and go slow , no need to change too much ..you have gotten some great ideas from others ...enjoy , slowly does it .

We think all you need is to add some lavender accents. Try some fluffy pillows, lamps, artwork, and a nice new comforter.

I would definitely repaint when you can, so that purple doesn’t drive the design, and then you can create a room more like your favorite inspiration photos! In the meantime, you could look for nightstands that have the same width as your windows and the same height as your bed. I like your white shades and headboard — I wouldn’t call them a mistake!

When you do paint, you could try a pale, neutral color such as “Balboa Mist” by Benjamin Moore: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/color-overview/find-your-color/color/1549/balboa-mist?color=1549
And since some of your inspiration photos have white bedding and chunky knit tassel-type throw blankets, you could start by choosing bedding you love that would give your room a light but cozy look!

Thanks so much all! I decided to paint and took several ideas from this thread.

I bought a $20 gray slipcover from amazon but it’s looking purple against the walls so I will swap back to white..

    Otherwise- I love it!
Does your rug have black in it? Why not swap the gray headboard cover for a black? With the walls in a light color, I think the contrast will work better.
The rug has a dark navy/indigo... What do you think?
Then how about a navy headboard? With the newly painted walls, the combination of navy, white, and putty work well together. Look back at Groveraxle’s layout: taller lamps, a larger picture (not a mirror) over the bed, and one dark pillow against white pillows and white comforter.
