Love your rug. White bedding works well especially since you said you there is not a lot of natural light. Once you determine the bed /headboard you can work on night stands and lamps so there are the correct proportions.

What do you think about the idea of an upholstered headboard/bed such as these (all houzz links)?

I would then choose simple but elegant white cotton or linen curtains that are lined!

It is hard to judge space available from your photos, but I see one small window on opposite sides of the room. Your bed and rug may be perfect cornered. Have you ever considered that? If it would fit properly there are so many things you could do with that arrangement.

JudyG Designs Thank you! The only issue with moving the bed into the corner is that the door facing that corner is the bathroom door, so I would be essentially facing the bathroom.

I love your rug and it looks like it works good in the room. I like a darker gray or blue (whatever the color is in your rug) upholstered headboard. No footboard, they tend to make the room feel smaller because it visually stops your eyes before continuing into the room. Colors for bedding, curtains and accessories should be pulled from the rug too. What are all the doors for? Are there 4? I would NEVER put a bed in a corner unless it is a single bed for a child that you worry may fall out. They are a pain to make. If you are married or share the bed it makes no sense to climb over someone to go to sleep. Every bed should have ample room to comfortably walk around it and have 2 night tables with lamps giving each person that uses it equality. The bed should be positioned so each person has the shortest walk into bed from the entry. No door opening into the side of the bed. Your arrangement now seems good if the open door is the entry.

Love the rug! Bedside table is too short - should arrive level with the mattress top. I would go dramatic and have a custom headboard made in either the rug's red or the color of the blue medallion in the center.

Rather than buying a whole new bed, you can keep the one you have and just turn up its appeal with a headboard that you attach, and better bed linens.

For a headboard that won't be too expensive, look at the recent catalog from Bed Bath and Beyond. They have several in different colors and materials.

You can get one in white or off white, or get a rich blue.

It is very difficult to make a bed with a foot board.

You will also turn up the wow factor if you get an upholstered bench (fabric to match your headboard or leather) to put at the foot of the bed. You can sit on it to put on your shoes or get dressed.

Some of them are made with storage inside so you can use that for extra shoes and boots, or for linens and extra blankets.

You definitely need to get a mattress cover for each of the box springs to protect them from dust and dust mites.

Also, get a dust ruffle to make the bed look "dressed." You can get one that look more tailored or one with a ruffle, which ever is your preference.

I would get a comforter that is larger. The one you have looks too small for the size bed that you have. You want one that comfortably drapes over the sides of the bed.

A bed looks luxurious with more pillows, so I suggest you get two European pillows, which are large square pillows, and you want three of them on a king bed, two on a queen. You want the pillow to be 28" on each side so that they plumply fill a 26" sham. These are the pillows that are decorative and stand up against the headboard.

Don't fiddle a little decorative pillows, they are a hassle to take off when you go to bed and to put back in the morning, and they drive men nuts.

Just get the European pillows because along with the other pillows, you need them and make the bed look and feel luxurious.

You also need 4 of the regular pillows that you sleep on, two for each of you.

If it is a king bed, most people get king pillows, so each pillow will reach halfway across the bed, and you put one pillow on top of each other, either flat, or arranged slightly at an angle.

The European pillows are arranged vertically against the headboard.

Some people choose to keep the shams covering the European pillows the same color as the pillow covers, and others choose to use a decorative pattern or color.

If you want to have all your bed linens in the same color family, you can add more interest there by adding some texture in the pillow shams on the European pillows, and adding a an extra textured coverlet folded at the foot of the bed.

Ugg makes a wonderful line of textural bed linens and pillow covers that is sold exclusively at Bed Bath and Beyond. It's not cheap, but it's worth a walk into the store to give you some ideas.

And of course a velvet headboard is just marvelously textured.

These days we are all so busy, many of us don't bother with the formal bedspread, and just spread out a large comforter over the bed.

In your room you have the color accent from your marvelous rug, and I do suggest you get some art on the wall with colors that pick up from the rug.

Also, don't forget a live plant. Coleus is a marvelous indoor plant that doesn't need a lot of light and it has red in it which will work well with your rug.

Don't buy lamps until you get your bedside tables because you want your lamps to be the right height.

Getting closer to choosing the bed. Which one do you like more - the upholstered or wood? I am a bit worried about the durability of the upholstered beds. I don't want to buy something that would age or stain quickly. I maybe leaning on the headboard when reading in bed. I think I like the look of the upholstered better but let me know your thoughts.
