Thermador vs Miele vs JennAir

Hi. I am trying to make some decisions about appliances and each one is so tough because there are limited objective ratings/reviews online. Thought I would try here. Would love some first hand user input so I can make a more informed decision.

Rangetop: I think I have landed on the 30" 5 burner Thermador. Seems like a solid choice. My 2nd choice is the Miele 4 burner + griddle. Anyone out there with the 5 burner Thermador? Happy? Any issues?

Oven: HELP, please.

  1. Thermador 30" PO301W. The only reason I would go with this one is because of the Thermador package deal. It seems sufficient. Has anyone out there had issues with it?

  2. Miele 30" H6680BP. I am a less confident cook and I really like some of the innovations out there which guide the cook through the process. This is one of those ovens, with their Culinary Center. Pretty cool. I also like that only around 2% of Miele customers have problems with their oven (tech calls). I understand that getting service can be a bit of a pain but it sounds rarely necessary so it's probably fine. Anyone out there that has this oven? Thoughts? An alternative to this oven could be the Wolf M transition (MSO30TM/S/TH). It also offers the cooking prompts at around the same price.

3. JennAir 30" JJW3430 DS. This oven looks nice and offers the culinary center type of help on the Miele but it's $1K cheaper. Consumer Reports rates it pretty well. However, JennAir's rate of service is much higher than Miele (according to one source I found on the internet) and I read some angry user complaints about the reliabilty. Anyone out there with this model? Thoughts?

Thank you!

5 burner Thermador is a cooktop not a rangetop.

That model Thermador oven is brand new this month and there is no history yet. It is slightly decontented from the previous model as it's top temperature on bake/convection is 525. Previously it was 550. This may point to a sensitivity of the new electronics to extended higher heat.

I have a Jenn-Air 36” range and am very happy with it. I had a minor issue with my dishwasher so I called JA customer service and not only were they extremely friendly, they sent someone out the very next day to repair it. Don’t want to ever have to call them, but at least I know if I do that their service is very responsive.

Miele is a step above the others, imo. You should go Miele for your dw for sure. Many add a combi/steam oven from Miele. Miele induction would be my choice for a cooktop.

I have the Miele oven and love it. The wireless probe is fantastic and use it all the time when cooking roasts. Slow roasting mode coupled with the probe makes even the leanest pork tender

the Miele with griddle sounds ok, but the amount of cfm needed for the exhaust hood would give me pause . Elsewhere on this board is a discussion of MUA (make up air) needed for gas tops especially with griddles - it is a big number $.

i would think about induction as the cook top. I would never go back to gas after having an induction. In every sense of the word it is a better

Michelle wants sophie back: I know that particular model is new but it isn't that different from it's predecessor. I welcome input on that one. Also, my understanding was that I could get the 5 burner thermador as a range top. Are you 100% positive the 5 burner doesn't come in a range top form?

I really like the Thermador rangetop. I just wish the ovens had the latest innovations:-( the package is a great deal. Free dishwasher with rangetop and oven purchase. I followed up with the website and an appliance store...the 5 burner does come in rangetop option. Phew. And? I even have a choice of 30 vs 36”

"I know that particular model is new but it isn't that different from it's predecessor. "

It has completely different electronics and a smaller oven cavity. That combined with the decrease in maximum temperature (and reading Thermador's blog) would indicate it's enough of a different design that it *is* much different than its predecessor.

It also is (if it follows the same as the double ovens) MUCH higher priced than its predecessor. The double ovens are challenging Miele's top end in price but not in functionality/track record. At that price point I would go Miele on the oven.

Oh, and that 30" 5 burner rangetop is a brand new product as well. That's why I wasn't familiar with it. Appears to be the regular cooktop in a rangetop form factor (burners are a variety of max BTU's - 2 at 8K, 1 (center) at 10K, 1 at 15K, 1 at 18K). There won't be any history on it yet. You'll want to see it in person to see how close the burners are - i.e. can you actually fit pans on all 5 burners at the same time should you want to. The cooktop versions are usually 36" models.

Thank you! This is so helpful. Appliance shopping is a bit overwhelming for this novice. Sounds like Miele oven may be the way to go. Still wondering about the JennAir...

We got that JenAirr oven 2 months ago and don't love it. It seems to cook low, and the racks don't slide out smoothly. Today the touch screen froze up. I'd recommend a different option.

delray33483: I thought I wanted induction, but have read horror stories about them on this forum. What brand do you have and how long have you had it?

I have a Miele induction for about 2 years. The oven is fantastic. very even temps and love the roast probe, especially when slow roasting meats.

i like the cooktop part, although i wish it had half steps instead of full. That being said induction is better than gas in every way - except maybe for wok cooking

what are your concerns with induction?

My concern was reading a long thread in this forum about the nightmare problems that people were having with the Electrolux induction and not being able to get the issues corrected, service people who didn't know what the problem was, etc. I think there were other brands that had lots of issues so thought it wasn't worth the risk; I want a dependable cooktop or range. I hadn't looked at Miele. I do have a Miele vacuum that I dearly love.
