Fireplace/Kitchen Duo!

Who agrees that the best place to gather (besides the kitchen) is in front of the fireplace...so why not have both in the same room!

Why is this posted in "before and after"?

That depends. Is it a real fireplace? Or that garbage oversized lava lamp in the picture.

Is there really enough room to gather around the fireplace?

What's with the niche to the left of the fireplace?

Why is there a break in the kitchen backsplash?

    Is there a "before" photo?

    Weird and out of proportion.

I would close up the wall with the cabinet peek-a-boo leading to the front room and extend the tile backsplash. Remove the fireplace. It's really bulky and dated. The rest of the room is really nice but the fireplace is not good. I like the stairs and the paint color. Close the niche. I am sure you worked hard designing this but it could be better with a bit of modification. I looked at the photos on your site. That fireplace chews up a lot of space in a very small room. and an L-shaped window that looks at the house next door ruins the aesthetic of the space . With the gorgeous view out the back, I would remove that weird window too and have a large wall for centering the tv or a large painting. The location is stunning though and so are the back views. Make that the feature and not that fireplace and weird window.
